With the increase of energy demand, the emission of CO₂ is also likely to increase by at least the same amount because energy supply will be based on fossil fuels, which is more apparent in a number of developing countries. The goals of this project are to develope the Fuel system of Land Fill Gas for GT co-generation system. The fuel system mainly consists of sulfur removal tower, biogas compressor and many filtering systems. A computational fluid dynamics study in the bio gas sulfur removal tower and sulfur absorption filter was carried out. Understanding of the flow in the sulfur removal tower and sulfur adsorption filter obtained by this study can be used to identify the problems in the sulfur removal tower and to improve the sulfur removal efficiency of the sulfur removal tower. Resistance material modeling is used to simulate the sulfur adsorption filter, and the resistance coefficient was adjusted to reflect the experimental pressure loss value. And the pressure loss change with the flowrate is predicted here.

As Decentralized Generation(DG) becomes more reliable and economically feasible, it is expected that a higher application of DG units would be interconnected to the existing grids. This new maket penetration of DG technologies is linked to a large number of factors like technologies costs and performances, interconnection issues, safety, market regulations, environmental issues or grid connection constrains. Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) has researched performance characteristics of the 60kW class 1) basic strat-up & shutdown operation analysis 2) interconnection test 3) MGT-absorption chiller-heater system in the local condition. Variations of heat recovery from exhaust gas has measured according to micro gas turbine output of 15, 30, 45, 60㎾. From those results, the performance of the MGT-absorption chiller/heater system has been evaluated. The suggested strategy and experience for the evaluation of the distributed generation will be used for the introduction of other distributed generation technologies into the grid in the future.

Biogas is a carbon neutral energy and consists of mostly methane and carbon dioxide, with smaller amounts of water vapor, and trace amounts of H₂S, Siloxane and other impurities. Hydrogen sulfide and Siloxane usually must be removed before the gas can be used for generation of electricity or heat. The goals of this project are to develope the Fuel conditioning system of Land Fill Gas for 30kW-Micro Gas Turbine co-generation system. The fuel conditioning system mainly consists of H₂S removal system, Land Fill Gas compressor, Siloxane removal system and many filtering systems. The fuel requirement of 30kW MGT is at least 32% of CH₄, H₂S (<30 ppm), Siloxane (<5ppb) and supply pressure (> 0.6 MPa) from LFG compressor. Main mechnical charateristics of Micro Gas Turbine system by using LFG have the specific performance; 1) high speed turbine speed (96,000 rpm) 2) very clean emmission NOx (<9 ppm) 3) high efficiency of energy conversion rate. This paper focuses on the development of design technology for LFG fuel conditioning system. The study also has the plan to replace the fuel of gas turbine and other distributed power systems. As the increase of Land Fill Gas (LFG), this system help to contribute to spread more New & Renewable Energy and the establishment of Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) for Korea.

Detailed Design for 25bar-class Biogas Compression Supplying System

The high fuel flexibility of gas turbine power system has boosted their use in a wide variety of applications. Recently, the demand for biogas generated from the digestion of organic wastes and sewage waste water as a fuel for gas turbines has increased. We investigated the performance of high pressure biogas compression system and operating conditions for supplying biogas. The total flow per minute of biogas from food waste water digestion tank is 54Nm³. The main type of biogas compression system is the reciprocating system and screw type system. The target of biogas mechanical data is the as belows; inlet pressure 0.045bar, supplying biogas temperature is 30{sim}60?C, and final pressure is above the 25 bar. Also, inlet conditions of biogas consist of CH4 48.5%~83%, H₂S Max. 500ppm, NH₃ Max. 1,500ppm and Siloxane 2.7~4.6ppm. The boosting Blower system raises a pressure from 0.045bar to 1bar before main compressor. The main system lay out of reciprocating consisits of compressor driver, filter, cooling system, blowdown vessel, control system and ESD(Emergency Shut Down) system. And an enclosure package needs to be installed for reducing noise up to 75dB. The system driver is the electronic motor of explosion proof type. Forthe compressor system reliable operation, the cleaning system something like particulate filter needs to be set up in the inlet of compressor and Coalescing Filter in the outlet of compressor. Particulate Filter has to be removed above 10{mu}m size of the particles in biogas. The coalescing filter(Micofine Borosilicate Glass Fibers Filter treated phenol acid) also removes moisture and oil of above 0.3{mu}m to be involved in high pressure biogas up to 90%~98%.
