Two difference cavitation models based on the homogeneous mixture model are used to study cavitating flows through converging-diverging channel. Here, the cloud cavities, pressure distributions and other results have been obtained and compared to evaluate two cavitation models. What’s more, differences are observed in the simulated results, due to the differences in characteristics of each model. Analytical results shows that the new improvement cavitation model is validated to have better effects on simulating cavitating flows.

Cavitating flow is widely shown in many engineering systems, such as marine propellers, pump impellers, nozzles, injectors, torpedoes, ets. The present work focuses on the numerical analysis of the multiphase flow around the underwater vehicle which was launched from a submarine. The governing equation is the Navier-Stokes equation with a homogeneous mixture model. The multiphase flow solver uses an implicit preconditioning scheme in curvilinear coordinate. For the code validation, the results from the present work are compared with the existing experimented and numerical results, and a reasonably good agreements are obtained. The multiphase flow around an underwater vehicle is simulated which includes submarine wake effects.
