실험설계의 재현성 확보를 위한 EEG를 이용한 환경에 대한 반응 실험연구 분석

뇌 활동을 측정하는 툴인 EEG는 최근 들어 건축 혹은 실내디자인의 다양한 특성에 대한 인간의 반응을 이해하기 위해 환경 분야에서도 사용되고 있다. 본 연구는 연구의 재현성 확보를 위해 EEG를 사용한 환경 분야 연구의 특성을 분석하고 연구방법을 종합하여 후속연구를 위한 기초자료를 제시하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 24편의 국내 선행연구를 연구 동향에 관한 1차 분석, 연구 설계 특성에 대한 2차 분석, EEG 실험 방법에 대한 3차 분석을 진행하였다. 그 결과, 많은 연구가 색채와 조명에 집중되어 있고 특정한 가설 없이 자극에 대한 뇌파 자체의 반응을 파악하고자 하는 연구가 많음을 알 수 있었다. 자극 제시 방식은 모니터로 이미지를 보는 경우가 많았고, 8채널로 측정하여 알파파와 베타파를 보고하는 경우가 대표적이었다. 그러나 어떠한 이론적 근거와 이유로 특정 부위의 특정 뇌파를 측정하는지에 대한 설명이 충분하지 않은 경향이 있었다. 본 연구의 결과로써 재현성 확보를 위한 EEG 실험 계획의 프레임워크를 제안하였다. 앞으로 환경 분야 EEG 연구의 발전을 위해 체계적인 틀 정립과 재현성 확보에 지속적 노력이 필요하다고 본다. Electroencephalography(EEG), a tool to measure brain wave activities and frequency, has been recently used in environmental behavior research to understand the human response to diverse characteristics of built environment, such as architecture and interior design. The purpose of this study was to provide fundamental basis for EEG studies on the human responses to diverse qualities of physical environments to achieve reproducibility in research methodology. A total of 24 journal articles were systematically reviewed to locate the following aspects: research trends, research design characteristics, and experimental settings. Results show that the majority of studies focused on color and lighting, many of them conducted with open inquiry without a particular hypothesis. Images rendered on computer screens were the most popular type of experiment stimuli. The reporting of alpha and beta bands obtained in eight channels was most popular; however, reporting the rationale for measuring certain parts of the brain and specific brain wave frequencies and providing theoretical basis for it were insufficient. A framework of EEG research consideration comprising of four stages was proposed. Making continuous efforts in building a systematic foundation of EEG experiment design and achieving reproducibility seem necessary for the sustainable development of EEG studies in built environments.

힐링 및 치유에 영향을 미치는 물리적 환경의 특성 프레임워크

환경에서 발생하는 다양한 스트레스는 사람들의 복지와 건강에 중대한 영향을 미친다. 최근 코로나 팬데믹으로 인해 스트레스의 원인에서 벗어나고 힐링 및 치유환경을 찾으려는 욕구가 더욱 증대되고 있다. 본 연구는 선행 연구 분석을 통해 힐링 및 치유에 영향을 미치는 환경적 요인들에 대한 종합적인 프레임워크를 제시함으로써 치유환경 관련 연구자, 설계자, 사용자에게 도움이 되고자 한다. 먼저 총 130개의 관련 선행연구들의 환경타입, 연도별, 출판 분야 분석을 시행하였다. 이후 구체적으로 치유환경의 요소들을 제시한 31개 연구들의 체계적 분석을 통해 힐링 및 치유에 영향을 미치는 환경적 요소들을 12개의 특성으로 분류하였다. 또한 미국 Therapeutic Environment Forum에서 제시한 치유환경의 4가지 요인을 세분화하여 제시하였고, 각 요인에 12개의 환경적 특성들을 연계한 종합적인 프레임워크를 제시하였다. 이를 통해 앞으로 이루어질 힐링 및 치유환경에 대한 연구와 설계를 다각화할 수 있는 기초를 제시하는 데 의미가 있다고 하겠다. People experience various types of stress emanating from the environment, which critically impacts their well-being and health. With the recent COVID 19 pandemic, the desire to escape the source of stress and find a healing and therapeutic environment has risen. The purpose of this study is to propose a new holistic framework for healing and therapeutic environments that can be used by interested parties, such as researchers, designers, and laypersons. A review of 130 articles on healing or therapeutic environment was conducted regarding the type of environment, published year, and published journal names. In addition, a systematic analysis of 31 articles that especially dealing with qualities of healing environment impacting healing and therapy yielded 12 characteristics of such environments. We also proposed a sub-constructs for the existing therapeutic environment framework consisting of four factors and placed the 12 characteristics matching with sub-constructs to produce a new framework. We expect the new framework will be used for the sustainable development of the research and design of healing and therapeutic environment.
