Failure analysis on the welded type 304 pipe used for cooling water piping in the district heating primary side was conducted. Inorganic elements and bacteria in the cooling water and in corrosion products were analyzed, and the weldment was inspected by microscopy and a sensitization test. Corrosion damages were observed in the heat-affected zone, on weld defects such as incomplete fusion or excessive penetration caused by improper welding, or/and at the 6 o'clock position along the pipe axial direction. However, the level of concentration of chloride in the cooling water as low as 80 ppm has been reported to be not enough for even a sensitized type 304 steel, meaning that the additional corrosive factor was required for these corrosion damages. The factor leading to these corrosion damages was drawn to be the metabolisms of the types of bacteria, which is proved by the detection of proton, sulfur containing species, biofilms, and both bacteria and corrosion product analyses.

세계적인 에너지 소비 증가로 친환경 에너지 전환의 분석 및 계획이 중요해지고 있다. 신재생에너지 보급은 전기 분야에 치중 되어왔지만, 냉난방 부문은 매우 높은 화석연료 의존도를 보여주고 있기 때문에 냉난방 부문에서도 신재생에너지 보급이 필요한 상황이다. 신재생에너지의 열분야 확대 적용을 위해 지역난방과 신재생에너지를 연계하고, 스마트 열 그리드를 적용하여 효율적인 열공급을 하는 스마트 플랫폼 구현을 추진 중에 있으며, 본 연구는 실증설비구축을 위하여 TRNSYS를 이용한 시뮬레이션을 통해 그 타당성을 분석하고자 한다. 그 분석방안으로 실증단지를 1, 2구역으로 나누어 신재생 열원과의 열수요와 공급에 따른 열거래 기능을 구현하고자 하였으며, 지역난방과의 연계를 고려한 시뮬레이션 및 1, 2구역 연계방안에 대한 연구를 진행하였다.

In this case study, we optimized cathodic protection (CP) design for river-crossing district heating (DH) pipeline under the Han River. This pipeline is not electrically insulated with other adjacent pipelines. Therefore, additional consideration for CP current loss to connected pipelines at both sides (North and South side) is needed. Furthermore, the anodes can be only installed at both side of pipeline. For these reasons, computational analysis of CP design was performed considering environmental factors. Firstly, we discuss about the minimum current for CP of river-crossing DH pipeline which was found to be 100 A, although theoretical calculation result was 74 A. Obviously, computational analysis should be conducted to obtain more stable and reliable CP design in the real field.

District heating is an efficient system that provides heating in large residential areas such as apartments by transporting heat over long distances using District Heating Pipes from heat remaining in the process of generating power from plants or heat produced from dedicated boilers. Currently, domestic district heating systems operate at high temperatures of up to 120 degrees. However, the supply of low temperature heat is gradually increasing overseas due to the interest in energy efficiency and environmental issues is increasing and the supply of unused and renewable energy is increasing. Reduction of supply temperature level is a favorable condition for maintaining long-term-term thermal performance of the insulation and minimizing thermal loads applied to district heating networks, but The large variation in supply temperature due to the use of various heat sources may adversely affect the life of low-cycle fatigue in the district heating networks. In this study, the effects of low temperature heat supply on the district heating networks were analyzed by analyzing the life of the insulation based on the Arrhenius equation and the life of the steel pipe according to the low-cycle fatigue theory.

A study on the utilization of raw water as a cooling water was conducted. The raw water near the central branch has a sufficient flow rate and is most effective when the ice-storage chiller is applied. The semi-shield method and the open cut method is reviewed and proposed, and the raw water temperature has excellent conditions for use as cooling water. As a result of the water quality analysis, the water quality was satisfactorily met and the turbidity was further improved by the installation of auto strainer. We proposed a method for maximizing the application of cooling water to the raw waters by season/chiller and performed the economic evaluation. It is judged that there is no big problem in utilizing the raw water as cooling water. The Jayang-Ilsan system was superior in terms of cost and the Paldang-Goyang system was excellent in flow-rate.
