In order to develop engines with high performance and good fuel economy, with low noise and vibration, pistons getting smaller and lighter. So, a piston cooling jet started to be applied to cool-down piston temperature generally by targeting piston under crown to reinforce piston material fatigue strength of aluminum alloy. In this study, different piston oil jet target of cylinder bore is to be tested by comparing conventional under-crown target for evaluation piston cooling-down performance as well as NVH characteristic and fuel economy effectiveness.

A reduction in piston ring friction would result in higher efficiency, lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions. So low tension rings that exert less pressure against cylinder walls than conventional rings are used in most engines today. But an increase in oil consumption can be predicted to occur with the low tension oil control ring design. It is generally known that the increase of oil ring tension with the minimum end gap is the well-known method to control oil consumption. However, from the result of this study, it was seen that the minimum oil ring end gap in low tension ring design could give the negative effect in oil consumption. Therefore, it is expected that the optimized larger oil ring end gap with low tension rings can be used as the achievement of low oil consumption.
