Currently, Electrification is the biggest trend in the global automobile market. Electric vehicles replace traditional internal combustion engines, where an electric motor generates traction. As electrification progresses in the automobile market, the development of electric vehicles in various segments is necessary. It is necessary to develop a driving motor with high efficiency and output for such electric vehicles. In order to achieve this, the improvement of the power density and the increase of the cooling performance are important points. The conventional driving motor for electric vehicles used a stator using a round wire. For higher performance, a hairpin stator using a square coil was developed. This improves the fill factor of the coil, and high efficiency and output can be obtained. Compared to the round wire stator, the hairpin stator has superior cooling efficiency and is suitable for mass production because of its excellent productivity. Another important point of electric vehicles is the use of high voltage. High voltage can increase charging efficiency, and can increase output and power density. This study is about the design of a high-voltage, high-fill-factor hairpin stator.
