A numerical analysis has been carried out to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of a solid-state transmit/receive module(TRM) used in a radar system. A three-dimensional computational model was generated, and the maximum and minimum heat dissipation rates was imposed on heat source areas of the amplifiers of the TRM and the worst operating conditions of high air temperature and the minimum flow rate were applied to the boundary conditions. The standard k-e model was used for the turbulence model. The effects of heat dissipation rates on temperature distribution of amplifiers and heatsinks, and the temperature differences between the location of temperature sensor and flanges of amplifiers were examined. The results show that the solid-state TRM is able to operate in the worst condition even with the maximum heat load.
