Brake pedals are one of the most important components that control the speeds of the vehicles. However, there are many drivers who feel uncomfortable while driving the vehicles with the fixed brake pedal apparatuses that cannot be adjusted to the drivers. Therefore, researches on adjusting the positions and the orientations of the brake pedal apparatuses instead of adjusting drivers’ seats are continuously progressing in today’s automotive industries. In order to design an adjustable brake pedal apparatus, the positions of the design parameters that cannot be changed in vehicles are verified and previous patents of the adjustable brake pedal apparatuses are analyzed based on Graph Theory before the beginning of actual design processes. As a consequence, most of the adjustable brake pedal apparatuses are comprised of seven links and two to three loop independences. In this paper, the outcomes of the type synthesis of the adjustable brake pedal apparatuses are enumerated based on Graph Theory and a new model of the brake pedal apparatus are presented.
