A brake system is one of the important parts that directly affect the safety of passengers, and the braking power is produced by the friction force between a pad and a disc. In this research, a nonlinear stress analysis and a transient thermal analysis for the brake system have been performed. The results of the stress analysis show that most of the force is transmitted to the caliper when the braking pressure is applied and to the carrier when the braking torque is applied. The thermal analysis has yielded the maximum temperature of the disc generated by friction force between the pad and disc. The temperature calculated by the simplified formulation has been compared with the result obtained by ABAQUS/standard S/W in the cases of the single-stop and the repeated braking condition. This procedure of analysis can be used to review the conventional brake system and to get a design guideline of the new product.
