Vol.- No.12

What is causing the deterioration of Christianity in Korea, making it utilitarian and superstitious faith for "happiness"? I believe the problem lies in the lack of understanding on "suffering". As an effect of Buddhism and shamanism one-sided viewpoint about suffering prevails: it is some-thing of no meaning. So the pursuit of comfort and easiness becomes just another name for the commitment to Christianity. Of cause, all these are absolutely wrong. St. Paul demonstrates the profound grasp of suffering and shows us its great as well as blessed meaning. To a Christian, suffering means jumping out of secular affairs through an uninterrupted fighting with sins, and the way of sanctification and glorification. When he experiences it he discovers the new possibilities of life and recognizes the emptiness of worldly affairs. Instead, he turns his eyes to things that are invisible and everlasting. According to St. Paul, suffering is supposed to be "natural lot" to a Christian. It is the counterpart of his future glory, the way of bringing about unio-mystica with Christ, and the evidence of the true apostle or real Christian. Indeed, to understand suffering in its deep sense, and to face it which courage is a great blessing.

II : The Unity of the Church 교회의 단일성

Vol.15 No.-

Ever since the Council of Constanionple in 381 The Church has confessed the article from the Creed of Nicaea that : " We belive.....in the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church" But nowadays over two hundred Churches belong to the World Council of Churches belong to the World Council of Churches (W.C.C)alone, quite apart from Roman Catholic, and many Churches which do not want to take part in W.C.C.,and there are many gulfs between these Churches in matter of creed, worship and Chruch order. Jesus Christ found His One Church as His holy body, and He gave Church a great mission to save all mankind to the remotest end of the earth. Changing times demand changing forms, so it is impossible simply to preserve the Church for all time in the original form, that the divisions came in the Church. St. Paul theaches clearly in the epistle to the Ephesians that," there is one body and one Spirit, just as also you received your calling, with one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all". And St. Paul exhorts us to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace with unalloyed humility and in a loving way. Church is a unity (one)that cannot be affected by any diaspora. Christian unity is not merely a goal of well intentioned human effort, but the confidence which is based upon the assurance that in Jesus Christ the unity of all Christians was already a reality. And the unity of Churches is the expression of new confidence and new strength in the Holy Spirit. The Church is one and therefore should be one.

Vol.- No.11

The study of St. Paul brings a better understanding about the life and thought of Christianity, but in the study of Paul many problems remain unsolved and many passages are still obscure. Paul was the genuine interpreter of Christ and his epistles are the first written interpretations of Christ. Truly, Paul's interpretation of Christ waa not a backward look of an historian, but for him Christ was a living, present reality. We have to know that Paul interpreted Christ in terms of vital religious experience. Paul insisted on the universality of sin. To Paul every man is involved in sin, and the wages of sin is death. But Christ died for our sin. Thus Paul speaks about us being enemies to God, but being reconciled by the death of Jesus Christ. (Rom. 3 : 23; 6 : 23; 5 : 8, 10). Jesus foresaw and foretold His passion, but did not explain it. Paul had to explain the Cross and His death. Paul's explanation has become the fundamental doctrine of the Christian Church. The Greek noun for “reconciliation”is Καταλλα??η一Καταλλασσω is its verb. We can find these words in the Pauline epistles alone. Because of man's sin and disobedience the relationship between man and God became a compound of estrangement, alienation, enmity, and fear. The key to Paul's idea of reconciliation is the restoration of a lost relationship. According to Paul, through the redemptive work of Christ the grim relationship is replaced by a relationship of trusting love. Reconciliation is the removal of the barriers, and is the highest providential activity of God. By reconciliation is meant the activity whereby the disorders of existence are Чealed, its alienations bridged over. Man is responsible for it, but its Initiator and Author is God Himself, this is the character of the mysterious secret and the gracious truth of reconciliation.

Vol.17 No.1

Objectives: This study was performed to identify the anti-inflammatory effect of Pulsatilla koreana (PK) methanol extract on lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced inflammatory. Methods: There were five groups. They were control group, LPS-exposed PK methanol extract group (0 mg/ml, 10 mg/ml, 30 mg/ml, 100 mg/ml). To measure out cytotoxicity of PK, we performed the MTT assay. To evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect of PK, we examined the inflammatory mediators, such as nitric oxide (NO), prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), and pro- inflammatory cytokines (interleukin [IL]-1b, IL-6, tumor necrosis factor-a [TNF-a], IL-10). Results: 1. The extract of PK (∼100 mg/ml) itself did not have any cytotoxic effect in RAW 264.7 cells. 2. The concentration of plasma NO and PGE2 in PK methanol extract group showed a lower values than those of control group. 3. The concentration of plasma IL-1b, plasma IL-6, and plasma TNF-a in PK methanol extract group showed a lower values than those of control group. 4. The concentration of Plasma IL-10 in PK methanol extract groups showed higher than control group; however, these values showed no significantly different. Conclusions: According to this study, the extract of PK could be used as a protective agent against inflammation.

Vol.- No.13

Nuclear weapons with their proneness to tempt absurd multiplication and frustrations in family life-these are the two greatest problems in our times and the eye of a typhoon that will drive mankind to destruction. Brunner argues that compared to the problems of marriage, pains resulting from economic or political injustice deserve only a secondary importance. It is necessary for modern men to recognize the persistent principles which have been conveyed through the Bible. In this context, this dissertation is an attempt to synthesize the morals of marriage St. Paul teaches in chapter seven of I Corinthians, chapter five of Ephesians and chapter four of I Thessalonians. Misinterpretations on his ideas seem to be prevented only when we give simultaneous thought to the first two chapters mentioned above. St. Paul never worshiped the state of singleness. A pertinent judgment is that his idea about the impending Second Advent and the passion he concentrated on the work of Jesus, living in his notion the last century of Christianity, made him verbalize the so-called principle of status quo, the meaing of which being married ones stay married, single ones single in this case. He also delivered quite realistic and moderate instructions as to divorce and re-marriage. In addition, his teachings about sex are valuable enough to gain the ear of the present generation. Paul certainly belonged to his own age, but at the same time he was a precursor as well who transcended it; he talked about the equality of the sexes and pointed the common participation of married couples. The urgency to reconstruct our homes which are on the verge of getting split, and by doing so the modern society as a whole, while we conceive the ethics of marriage in the Bible again, gained relevance from Something about Emilia which was ABC TV's presentation on January 9th this year. Mankind, with its problems of marriage, is standing at the crossroads that can lead to either flourishment or collapse.

Vol.15 No.4

The purpose of this research was 1) to discover whether there was a difference in affect regulation style according to different adult attachment styles and, more specifically, 2) to find differences in the effectiveness of affect regulation among the different adult attachment styles by controlling four basic negative affects anger, sadness, anxiety, and shame. The experiment involved 440 participants who were asked to complete a questionnaire that measured adult attachment styles, affect regulation styles, and the effectiveness of affect regulation. The collected data was then used to divide the participants into Secure and Insecure (Dismissing, Preoccupied, Fearful) groups and was analyzed through a one-way ANOVA test and Scheffes test. The results showed that there was a significant difference in affect regulation styles according to different adult attachment styles. The Secure attachment style group used support-seeking methods and active ways of affect regulation whereas the Preoccupied attachment style group mainly practiced support-seeking ways. In the cases of the Dismissing and Fearful groups, however, they exhibited low usage in all of the affect regulation styles. The Secure group effectively controlled anger and sadness by using both support-seeking and active ways, anxiety by using support-seeking ways, and shame by using active ways. On the other hand, the Insecure groups affect regulations showed much less effectiveness than that of the Secure group. Finally, the implications and limitations of this research were discussed and suggestions for future research were proposed.

The Holiness of The Church

Vol.17 No.-

The church confesses her own holiness. Holiness is usually thought of as perfection, cleanness and purity. Then is it possible that the church can confess the credo of holiness without hesitation? Various excuses have been attempted, sometimes setting apart the holy members, sometimes distinguishing between a "holy" Church and sinful members, sometimes distinguishing between the "holy" and the sinful parts of the Christian. They are understandable but not acceptable. The Church is "holy" always and forever. 1. Because the church is the body of Christ. 2. Because the holiness of church is the will of God. 3. Because the church is the community of God not of men. 4. Because the church is the community of faith into Christ. The church has already been set apart from the world by God as something holy. The external things may threaten the church and sometimes the church may be humbled and weakend or persecuted, but "the powers of death shall not prevail against it"(Mt. 16 : 18). Despite its failings and weakness God Himself will keep it alive and holy. And the internal decay may threaten and it may be despoiled or it may forget its true calling, but despite its sin and guilt Christ Himself will preserve His body as His "holy congregation." Amen.
