Pressure-flow control characteristics of a commercially available cerebrospinal flow(CSF) control shunt valve was tested using fluid-solid interaction analysis. Pre-stress of the valve diaphragm(membrane) was computed for proper valve opening. The results were in good agreements with the valve specification listed in the commercially available CSF control valve. The results of the study can be effectively used to design variety of CSF control shunt valves.

Pressure-flow control characteristics of a commercially available cerebrospinal flow(CSF) control shunt valve was studied using flow/structure interaction analyses. Pre-stress of the valve diaphragm(membrane) was accounted for the simulation of an actual valve. The present results were in good agreement with the valve specification listed in the commercially available CSF control valve. The flow/structure interaction analysis of the present study can be effectively used to design a variety of CSF control shunt valves.

In the present study a mesh generation program has been developed by using DXF file. The program consists of DXF file reading and mapping algorithm, which projects the 2-D mesh point onto the triangular surface constructed by nearest three points. The present program has been tested for mesh generations for the road tunnel ventilation analysis and analysis of lava movement in mountain area.

Leaf type foil bearings have been used successfully in many aerospace applications such as air cycle machines, turbocompressors and turboexpander. These applications are characterized by light loads, constant speeds and low to moderate temperatures. But, as system on start-up or shutdown, sliding contact between the shaft and foil surfaces cause wear. So, in present study, to understand pressure-flow characteristics and deformation of foil bearing, flow/structure interaction analysis was used. and using this method, 2D and 3D calculation was performed for shape of foil bearing to know circumferential direction flow and leakage flow characteristics of axial direction.

In the present study a semi-automatic mesh generation program has been developed by using DXF file containing contour line data. The program consists of DXF file reader and mapping algorithm. Pre-generated 2-D planar mesh points are to be mapped one by one onto triangular surface whose three vertices are three nearest contour points surrounding the mapping point. The present program has been successfully tested for mesh generations for the road tunnel ventilation analysis and analysis of lava movement in mountain area.

A general purpose program NUFLEX for the analysis of 3-D heat/fluid flow in complex geometry with pre/post processor have been developed, which consists of a flow solver based on FVM. and a dedicated pre/post processor. The program employs a general non-orthogonal grid system and solve laminar and turbulent flows with standard and RNG k-ε turbulence models. NUFLEX is capable of analysing two-phase flow with topologically complex interface, turbulent diffusion combustion, solidification problems and magnetic flow. For the purpose of verification of the program and testing the applicability, several practical problems are solved and compared with the available data. Comparison of the NUFLEX results with that by the STAR-CD program has been also made for the same flow configuration and grid structure.

The leaf type foil bearing is self-acting surface bearing. When in operation, foil bearing support load on an air film between rotating shaft and bearing. But, as system on start-up or shutdown, sliding contact between the shaft and foil surfaces cause wear. Therefore pressure-flow characteristics and deformation of leaf type foil bearing were studied using a flow/structure interaction analysis. With this method, we obtained final shape of foil bearing for various rotating speed. The flow/structure interaction analysis of the present study can be effectively used to design the leaf type foil bearing.
