In this study, a simple method for measurement of blood viscosity and RBC aggregation in a microfluidic device is suggested. Using a disposable air-compression pump, shear rates of blood flow are varied continuously over time. By monitoring image intensity, blood velocity, and cell-to-liquid interface, RBC aggregation and blood viscosity are simultaneously measured with respect to shear rate. From the experimental demonstrations, it is found that the suggested method is capable of measuring blood viscosity and RBC aggregation over varying shear rate, with reliability.
