        Determinants of Functional MicroRNA Targeting

        MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play cardinal roles in regulating biological pathways and processes, resulting in significant physiological effects. To understand the complex regulatory network of miRNAs, previous studies have utilized massivescale datasets of miRNA targeting and attempted to computationally predict the functional targets of miRNAs. Many miRNA target prediction tools have been developed and are widely used by scientists from various fields of biology and medicine. Most of these tools consider seed pairing between miRNAs and their mRNA targets and additionally consider other determinants to improve prediction accuracy. However, these tools exhibit limited prediction accuracy and high false positive rates. The utilization of additional determinants, such as RNA modifications and RNA-binding protein binding sites, may further improve miRNA target prediction. In this review, we discuss the determinants of functional miRNA targeting that are currently used in miRNA target prediction and the potentially predictive but unappreciated determinants that may improve prediction accuracy.

        초등학교 수학에서 짝수와 홀수의 활용

        짝수와 홀수는 초등학교 수학 교과서에 수학 용어로 제시되었지만 이에 관한 명시 적인 문제 상황과 활동은 8가지 나타난다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제 상황과 활동 에서 명확하게 논의되지 않은 짝수와 홀수의 개념과 비형식적인 성질을 정당화의 관점에서 분석한다. 또한 분석 결과를 바탕으로 교과서의 문제 상황과 활동을 재구 성하여 아동들이 짝수와 홀수의 개념과 성질을 비형식적으로 이해하고 이를 수학 적 정당화 활동으로 활용할 수 있는 몇 가지 사례를 제시한다. Even and odd numbers are given as mathematical terms in the elementary school mathematics textbooks. However, there are 8 explicit problem situations or activities involving even and odd numbers in the textbooks. In this study, we analyze the concepts and informal properties of even and odd numbers which are not clearly discussed in those 8 problem situations or activities from the perspective of mathematical justification. In addition, based on our results, we reorganize some problem situations or activities in the textbooks so that students could informally understand the concepts or properties of even and odd numbers and apply them for their mathematical justification activities.

        초등학교 수학에서 같음과 등호의 의미에 대한 고찰

        The concept of equality is given as a way of reading the equal sign without dealing it explicitly in elementary school mathematics. The meaning of the equal sign can be largely categorized as operational and relational views. However, most elementary school students understand the equal sign as an operational symbol for just writing the required answers. It is essential for them to understand a relational concept of the equal sign because algebraic thinking in middle school mathematics is based on students’ understanding of a relational view of the equal sign. Recently, the relational meaning of the equal sign is emphasized in arithmetic. Hence it is necessary for elementary school students to have some activities so that they experience a relational meaning of the equal sign. In this study, we investigate the meaning of the equal sign and contexts of the equal sign in elementary school mathematics to discuss explicit ways to emphasize the concept of equality and relational views of the equal sign. 초등학교 수학에서는 ‘같음’을 명시적으로 다루지 않고등호를 읽는 방법으로 제시한다. 등호의 의미는 크게 연산적인 관점과 관계적인 관점으로 구분된다. 그러나 대부분의 초등학교 학생들은 등호를 연산의 결과로 구한 답을적으라는 연산적인 의미로 이해한다. 중학교 수학에서 요구되는 대수적 사고를 하기 위해서는 등호의 관계적인 의미에 대한 이해가 바탕이 되어야 한다. 최근에는 초등학교수학에서 다루는 산술에서부터 등호의 관계적인 의미를강조한다. 따라서 초등학교 수학에서 학생들이 등호의 관계적인 의미를 경험할 수 있는 활동을 의도적으로 제시할필요가 있다. 본 연구에서는 초등학교 수학에서 사용되는같음과 등호의 의미와 등호가 사용된 맥락을 분석하고, 이를 바탕으로 같음과 등호의 관계적인 의미를 강조할 수있는 방안을 논의하고자 한다.

        Gregor Johann Mendel was born on July 22, 1822 in the Heinzendorf village in Odrau city in the Kuhland area, Austria.(Now Czechoslovakia) After graduating the Olmu¨tz university in 1842, he obtained a job in the Koniginkloster in Bru¨nn where he started to teach the cloister attached middle high school. He taught natural sciences there and later became Pra¨lat of that Ko¨niginkloster which he kept until he passed to the death on January 6, 1884. His research works including the hybridization with genus Pisum were made mostly during his service period in this Koniginkloster where he spent most of his time in the research works in plants, insects and animals particularly with garden peas. He was gifted with genius. His parents were fruit trees growers while his uncles in law run a private school for those unbenefited pupils in the Heinzendorf village. These family factors might possibly be the cause made him to become a teacher in natural sciences particularly in heredity-evolution in plants. His parents and sisters shoved and paid unusually deep love and interest to Johann and in his schooling. They prepared all the school expences for him nevertheless they were underliving with orchard farm occupation. Only the greater successes in his schooling of gymnasium and university were the sole hope of his family in which we can easily find their oriental like personality. Later Johann paid back his sisters for their benefactions he owed them before in which we can see again his oriental like moral character. Nevertheless of his willingly character to respect his superiors such as his former gymnasium and university teachers he did not dare to intercourse with those worldwidely known biologists such as Hugo de Vries, Charles Darwin etc. in any way. This might be the probable cause covered his research work on the "Vershue u¨ber Pflanzen-Hybriden" for thirty five years. What made him fail twice in the national examinations of middle-high school science teacher's certification against his brilliant genius is another riddle the author could net trace back through this research work.

        내시경 점막하 박리술로 진단된 상피하종양으로 발현한 위 신경내분비암 1예

        A gastric neuroendocrine carcinoma is very rare, and the histological diagnosis is very difficult. These carcinomas result in a poor prognosis because they are preceded by severe lymphovascular invasion and early metastasis. In particular, it is difficult to distinguish between adenocarcinoma and neuroendocrine carcinoma by endoscopy when no specific symptoms are present (e.g., dyspepsia, nausea). According to published articles in Korea, most cases were diagnosed as adenocarcinoma initially; however, they were confirmed postoperatively as neuroendocrine carcinoma based on a histological examination using immunohistochemical staining. A case of a 55-year-old man, who had an incidental finding of a subepithelial tumor during his health check-up, was recommended for an endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). But the patient was lost to follow-up for 4 years. When he was examined again, the size of the tumor had increased from the previous exam. He underwent ESD and was diagnosed with a well-differentiated neuroendocrine carcinoma. 위에서 발생하는 신경 내분비 암은 매우 드물며 진단하기 쉽지가 않다. 상대적으로 맥관의 침윤도가 높고 조기 전이 소견을 보여 예후도 좋지 않다. 특히 소화불량이나 오심 등의 비특이적 증상뿐 아니라 내시경 검사 소견에서도 선암과의 구별이 쉽지 않다. 국내에서 보고된 증례들의 경우, 대부분 선암으로 진단된 뒤 수술후 생검된 조직검사 및 면역화학 염색 검사 결과를 통해 진단되었다. 저자는 55세의 남자가 건강검진에서 우연히 상피하종양이 발견되어 내시경 점막하 박리술을 권유 받은 후 추적 소실되었고 4년 후 상부위장관 내시경 검사에서 종양의 크기 증가로 인하여 내시경 점막하 박리술을 받고 고분화 신경내분비암으로 진단된 증례를 경험하여 고찰과 함께 보고한다.

      • 農業敎育이 새마을 運動에 미치는 效能에 關한 硏究

        The new village movement in Korea must be continued with a strong generative power, at least, until it becomes the Korean life pattern by achieving a short range from the present wide gap of income between urban and rural areas and developing it to the rich capitalized, urbanized, and industrialized Korea. Accordingly, the government of Korea must wisely proceed various new village movement profects by applying the best policies and methods to the economic, social and cultural fields in order to stabilize it permanent. The study, which has been conducted for more than two years to discover the role and function of vocational agricultural education and agricultural training in Korea in the process of the new village movement, has reached to the following conclusions. 1. The present intensive activities in dwelling environment improvement work must be turned to the guidance activities in farmers' income increasement. 2. Much effectiveness in the new village movement is expected in promoted vocational agricultural education in Korea if the new village movement work expects a great success. In other words, a graduation from a vocational agricultural high school is highly desired as an educational training background of a new village movement leader who can guide a village for the betterment in income increasement. 3. Ministries of Agriculture & Fisheries and Education must be the first and the second responsible government agencies in the new village movement activities in order to proceed it most effectively and fruitfully.

      • 導入牧草 Buffel grass의 耐旱性에 關한 形態學的 硏究

        Problem: The problem involved an investigation of the morphological features of Buffel grass which is an extreme drought resistant bunch grass which may be adaptable in the Korean pasture program during the dry season. Findings: Experimental analysis for the study were obtained through the observation of its life cycle and microtechniques throughout the study. The result of the study indicated that: (1) the presence of corm-like structure in the root system, rigid and solitary epidermal tissues of stem, exteremely modified bulliform cells on adaxial leaf surface, distribution of guard cells on adaxial leaf surface, and greatly reduced ligules were the water saving mechnisms in this plant; (2) the presence of multiple embryo sacs and delayed endosprm formation were the pronounced morphological characteristics of this species; and (3) the origin and the development of the delayed endosperm formation was pseudogamous. At least from the standpoint of morphological characteristics, Buffel grass is highly tolerable to the adverse condition in dry regions where water is a limiting factor for the plant growth.
