The steering effort is an important characteristic of vehicles because it influences driver comfort directly. Steering effort and steering feel are of interest in this report. This report used the AutoSim to model the vehicle and to prepare simulation code. FORTRAN was used to analyze the non-linear behavior of vehicle and was also used for type modeling using the Magic Formula. A parametric study of these parameters is carried out to get their effects on the steering effort. The influences of design parameters and driving conditions were computed

Power steering that had been developed to assist steering effort at (parking and at very slow speed driving. Steering feel may get worse due to the existence of torsion 1m that is twisted in order to activate the power steering valve. Also friction and stiffness of the power steering system affect steering feel in terms of on-center feel at high speed driving. "Centre Feel Assist" mechanism was developed for improving the steering feel at straight ahead and high speed driving, on the basis of the conventional valve. By adopting CFA valve, it was possible to optimise the steering valve characteristics and consequently the steering performance without increasing static steering effort.

Electric Power Steering(EPS) was developped to assist steer using electric motor. EPS drives motor only at the time of steering and according to the driving conditions, so EPS gives optimal steer characteristic and reduces fuel consumption. Also EPS can reduce the weight of steering system and it need not power steering oil. This paper describes the development process of EPS and compares the ability of EPS to that hydraulic power steering. The EPS was tested on a front wheel drive vehicle weighing 600kg in front axle load.
