In this paper, the effects of methanol auxiliary injection method for exhaust emission have been investigated to a direct injection diesel engine. Methanol is oxygenated fuel with large latent heat. As methanol is supplied, soot concentration is remarkably reduced. But NOx concentration is a little increased. Soot is decreased according to the increase of methanol injection duration. It is considered that the primary cause of the increase in the quantity of pre-mixed combustion. The maximum delivery quantity of methanol is limited to approximately 50% of total fuel delivery due to misfire and knocking.<br/>

Natural gas is considered to be an alternative fuel for passenger car and truck transportation that can provide both good environmental effect and energy security.<br/> In the present study, a 1.8L conventional gasoline engine was modified to a CNG engine with PFI system., which can be operated with CNG only as a fuel. The effects of flow motion, air fuel ratio and ignition timing on the combustion and emission performances were investigated. Flow motion of tumble-swirl were varied with a swirl control valve installed at the inlet ports. We analyzed the combustion characteristics of engine by analysis of the cylinder pressure.<br/> As a result, CNG engine with swirl control valve increased brake torque, but higher exhaust emissions, compared to the prototype CNG engine<br/>
