The torsional vibration of the crank train system has become severe with the increase of exciting force by high peak cylinder tiring pressure in the high-speed diesel engines. Therefore the application of the viscous damper that can achieve the considerable reduction of the torsional vibration and the high reliability for the durability of crank train system was considered. In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of the viscous damper were investigated by changing the moment of inertia of the inertia ring, the viscosity of the silicone fluid and the gap factor through the analysis work and the measurement in the real engine condition.

In order to change a manufacturing process, the plastic air intake manifold had to be modified with the runner length and diameter because of package problems. The original process is "Lost-Core" and the new one is "Vibration-Welding". The reverse engineering has been done through scanning the original intakemanifold. And scatter bands of the design parameters were picked up. The computation fluid dynamics (CFD) and the onedimensional engine performance simulation are showed in this paper. In addition this study would like to show how to put an output from an analysis work into a design process.

For the New development DSL Engine intake ports have to be designed and developed to achieve the emission targets of EuroⅣ. Therefore a variable intake swirl concept was chosen. The intake ports were designed as an "atypical" helical port and a tangential split-port. The tangential split-port was designed as a quiescent port together with a tangential port split by a separation wall. Due to the variable swirl the quiescent port branch could be closed by a flap included in the intake manifold. This study of the 3-way intake port and a variable swirl system (VSS) shows how to effect combustion and emission.
