This paper describes the motion system developed for a driving simulator, consisting of a six degree of freedom Stewart platform driven hydraulically. The hardware has been developed based on careful consideration of target performance, motion envelope, driving scenarios, etc. The drive logic, consisting of an washout algorithm, inverse kinematic analysis, and a control algorithm, has been developed and applied for creating high fidelity motion cues.<br/>

The Visual cue is most significant in controlling and maneuvering a car, among the visual, motion, and control cues available to a driver. This paper describes our effort to develop an economical visual system creating high fidelity visual scenes for a driving simulator. The system consists of a PC with a high performance 3D graphic accelerator and a projector for display. A visual system software has been developed using OpenGL, VRML, and MIDI technology. A system configuration file has been utilized for defining driving scenarios and measuring performance easily. An audio system has been also developed for enhancing driving simulation fidelity.<br/>
