개혁주의 전통 안에서 살펴본 윌리엄 퍼킨스와 데이비드 딕슨의 언약신학의 특징

본 논문은 개혁주의 전통 안에서 윌리엄 퍼킨스와 데이비드 딕슨의 언약신학의 특징들을 연구하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 달성하기 위해서 첫째로, 본 논문은 초대교회에서부터 퍼킨스와 딕슨이 활동한 시기, 그리고 현대에 이르기까지의 개혁주의 언약신학의 형성사를 살펴보았다. 이 연구를 통해 개혁주의 언약신학이 퍼킨스와 딕슨의 시기에 이르러서 보다 구체화되었음이 밝혀졌다. 환언하면, 개혁주의 언약신학의 형성사를 통해 퍼킨스와 딕슨의 언약신학을 연구할 당위성을 증명된 것이다. 둘째로, 앞선 두 명의 신학자들의 언약신학의 특징에는 구속협약, 기독론적 체계, 그리고 그리스도와의 연합이 있음을 살펴보았다. 구속협약은 삼위일체 하나님께서 협의하신 것으로서 하나님의 작정의 실행과 방식에 대하여 그리스도께서 동의에 의한 것인데, 하나님의 작정 그 자체로서의 언약을 의미한다. 기독론적 체계는 성육신 하신 그리스도의 중보자로서의 사역 즉, 두 본성(신성, 인성)의 연합 안에서 삼중직(선지자, 제사장, 왕)을 통한 하나님의 작정에 대한 순종(능동적, 수동적)을 드러냈다. 그리스도와의 연합은 성령을 통해서 그리스도께서 하나님의 작정의 실행을 신자에게 적용하는 것으로서, 그리스도께서 의를 전가하여 신자가 구속의 은혜를 누리는 것이다. 그러므로 본 논문은 기존의 칼빈 중심의 연구들을 넘어서 퍼킨스와 딕슨의 언약신학의 특징들을 논함을 통해 개혁주의 언약신학의 풍성함을 보여주었다. This paper aims to study the characteristics of the covenant theology by William Perkins and David Dickson within the Reformed tradition. For this object, in the first place, this paper examined the formative history of Reformed covenant theology from the early church to the times of Perkins and Dickson, and the present day. It was made clear that Reformed covenant theology became more concrete in the period of Perkins and Dickson through this study. In other words, through this history, this paper proved the rationale to study Perkins and Dickson’s covenant theology. Secondly, this paper made research on the characteristics of the covenant theology of the two previous theologians, which are the covenant of redemption, the christological system, and union with Christ. The Covenant of Redemption is by the agreement of Christ as to the execution and manner of God’s decree as the Council of the Trinity, which is the covenant as God’s decree in itself. The Christological system revealed the obedience (active, passive) to God’s decrees through the threefold office (prophet, priest, king) within the union of the two natures, as the ministry of the Incarnate Christ, the Mediator. Union with Christ is the application of God’s decree to the believer through he Holy Spirit, and Christ imputes the righteousness to the believer in order to enjoy the grace of redemption. Therefore, this paper showed the richness of Reformed covenant theology by discussing the characteristics of Perkins and Dickson’s covenant theology beyond the existing Calvin-centered researches.
