Four novel anthracene based emitters were designed and synthesized for non-doped deep-blue organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), namely, 4-(10-(4-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)-2-methylphenyl) anthracen-9-yl)-3-methylphenyl) diphenyl phosphine oxide (CZm-AN-mPO), 4-(10-(4-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)phenyl) anthracen-9-yl)phenyl)diphenylphosphine oxide (CZ-AN-PO), 9,10-bis(5-(naphthalen-1-yl)pyridin-2-yl)anthracene (PyIN) and 9,10-bis(6-(naphthalen-1-yl)pyridin-3-yl)anthracene (PyOUT), respectively. Their photophysical, thermal, electrochemical and electroluminescence (EL) properties are systematically investigated. All four deep-blue emitters exhibited intense deep-blue emission in solution and neat film at room temperature. Particularly, the non-doped device using CZ-AN-PO as emissive layer exhibited a maximum external quantum efficiency of 7.3% and deep-blue Commission Internationale de L’Eclairage coordinates (CIEx,y) of (0.15, 0.07).
