This research article examines the usage of the adverb ``gas`` in detail as a preliminary research for a further study on the relationships in the group of modern Korean adverbs which refer to the present, or times close to the moment of utterance or a criterion time. Studied data are a total of 287 examples of usage extracted from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism/ The National Institute of The Korean Language(2002), which is a corpus including 10 million words. The results showed that the characteristics of the usage of the adverb ``gas`` can be described in four points. At first, It functions not only as an adverb but also as a prenoun, because it modifies both declinable and indeclinable words. Secondly, It is mostly used with past events, and rarely with events in present progressive. And then Modifying declinable words with it signifies the temporality that the change has occurred recently. When it modifies indeclinable words, it refers not only to the temporality, that is, ``only a very short period of time has passed since the acquisition of age or career signified by the indeclinable word``, but also to the modality that is, he or she is not satisfied with the person`s age or career. For the last, the term ``gas`` is often used just in front of the verb, and the modified verb is mostly used in adnominal form. In most cases, the noun modified with the verb in adnominal form is semantically the subject of the modified verb.
