A series of impact strength analyses of ball joints, which are taking an important role in connecting the automotive suspension parts and suffering impact load due to unexpected bumpings and sudden steering changes, were performed in order to determine the design specification for impact.<br/> Stresses and displacements at the week portion produced by dropping a rigid weight on the ball stud with an fixed end were investigated, with changing the drop position.<br/> Throughout this study an analysis design specification for ball joint impact with the reasonable safety filctor of impact stress of ball stud was investigated.

Recent trend of the consumer preference in automobile market is sport utility vehicle and multi-purpose vehicle, which provide wide inner space for various and efficient usage. Though those vehicles are convenient for loading much luggage in space behind the third seat, if the vehicle undergoes front impact with high velocity, that luggage strongly collides into the seat back and the passengers in the seat could be severely injured. Therefore, high strength against luggage intrusion is required for the third seat, and it is regulated by law of ECE R17. In this study, through comparison of the analysis and test results for a seat under developing of a new vehicle, an analysis technique for simulating luggage intrusion test for ECE R17 was investigated.
