This paper presents the displacement and von Mises stress distributions along the inside rubbing surface of a cylinder hole for an injection molding machine. These characteristics for a cylinder body are analyzed based on the temperature gradients and pressure distributions. These are developed by friction heating, externally transmitted heat sources, and feeding pressure which are provided by a screw operation. The FE results indicate that the temperature gradients along the lengthwise of a cylinder are very important sources rather than the internal pressure. This may lead to high thermal stress along the lengthwise of a cylinder. In final, the elevated stress may increase the failure possibility for a cylinder body.

Some experimental observations have been made on the line wave detonation of the explosive welding. ultra high speed camera was used to observe the line wave formation during the explosive process. Experimental results confirmed the line wave formation of the shock front and also showed the effectiveness of the line wave generator throughout the explosive welding between the aluminium flyer and steel parent plate.

This paper presents the safety analysis of the pressure vessels, which is related to the optimized design of the steel structure based on the safety design technology. In this study, the profile of the flange structure is very important safety design parameters in the conventional pressure vessel using the bolted fixture mechanism. The computed results present the recommended safety design value of 200 to 250mm curvature radius for the very high pressure container.

One of the most important parameters for explosive welding is flyer velocity(??), which principally depends on momentum aparted from detonation of the explosive. And close dependency with other parameters such as dynamic angle(β), impact pressure(??), charge ratio(R), flyer thickness(??) and stand-off distance(d), should be taken accounts for welding design. This paper describes, as a result of experiment, some empirical equation related to relation between ?? and R. The value of ?? equals to ?? can be used on ordinary experiment, seems to be better accuracy than any other investigators.

The thermal characteristics of a disk such as temperature distribution and thermal behaviours during a braking operation has been analyzed for a high-speed train using the finite element method. The maximum contact stress for a pad loaded against a friction disk was occurred at the trailing and leading edges of the disk pad at the underlayer-backplate interface. The finite element results indictate that the thermal characterisics of the spot type pad shows good performance compared with those of the flat type pad. Thus, the spot type pad in brake system may be recommended for the high-speed train system.

This paper presents the current trends and general problems for the cooperative education programs based on the industry - university partnership. Many advanced countries in an effort to enhance engineering education have been long stressed that a key element for the industry activities must be the strong partnership by industry in the educational process especially at the undergraduate level. Thus, to make a successful cooperative education goal, the university's courses and activities are regularly reviewed by the industry and university advisory committees. In recent years, the education programs from the European countries and the USA have been introduced to the academic courses and research activities of Korean universities for an implication of university and industry cooperation. Engineering education programs are headed by government funds as a part of the relocation of the university students and the researchers. But these kinds of relocation policies may produce more problems and weaken Korean Industry's competitiveness in world markets.

The pressure distributions of impact zone, the mechanism analysis of jetting and wave formations between the two colliding plates have been simulated using the numerical hydrocode DYNA2D. The data for the computer simulation was given by the experimental results. The calulated results indicated that the sinusoidal wave and jet formation were clearly developed at the interface between the two impacting plates.

This paper presents the knowledge and information construction trends in the lube industry. The investigated results show that the website construction and e-business levels for lube industries including oil circulation distributors are very low and introductive stage compared with those of other conventional industries.

This paper represents the FEM calculated results for the temperature distributions of the ventilated disc brakes. A steady state three-dimensional model of 1/6 part of disc brake system predicts the surface temperatures during a multi-stop driving schedule. A complex three-dimensional model can be used to obtain detailed local rotor temperature distributions for any stoping sequence.
