Steady 리ow bench test is a practical way to determine intake design concepts of a new engine. The steady flow scheme is relatively simple and it provides some bulk data such as flow rate and momentum of flow easily. However,<br/> in the parametric points of view, it is not so easy to investigate all port and valve shapes with experimental tools A CFD code can be easily applied to the parametric study of port or valve evaluation, by virtue of the simplicity of steady flow test In this study, tile steady flow test ,and CFD analysis are applied to evaluate tile effect of valve curvature on flow rate. In the comparison, the feasibility of applying analytic methods is confirmed. Effects of intake pressure change and intake valve angle change on the flow coefficients are estimated by CFD analyses. Through the study, it is confirmed that tile CFD analysis is a good solution to evaluate the relation of intake phenomena and parameters of intake system.<br/>

UEGI (Unburned Exhaust Gas Ignition) is an alternative method for fast light-off of a catalytic converter. It ignites unberned exhaust mixture using two glow plugs installed in the upstream of the close-coupled catalysts(CCC). In addition, a hydrocarbon adsorber was applied to the UEGI system, for more effective reduction of HC emission. Engine bench tests show that the CCC reaches the light-off temperature faster compared with the Baseline exhaust system and HC and CO emissions are reduced significantly during the cold start. From vehicle tests it was observed that HC emission was reduced effectively, even the catalysts were aged. It is expected to develop a solution kit applicable to a new vehicle or used one, to meet the stringent emission regulations.<br/>
