Recently, high reliability of electrical power system is required. Accordingly, for the protection of the power systems used circuit breakers are required high reliability. Nowadays general interruption time of circuit breaker is 3~5 cycle, but recently, to meet the needs of the high reliability, research on high speed circuit breaker has been made. The studies of high speed circuit breaker consist of research of high speed protection relay and high speed circuit mechanism. In this study, we proposed high speed mechanism with hybrid type mechanism, which consists of conventional spring mechanism and Thomson coil actuator.

Spring Operating Mechanism(SOM) is a dynamic system for opening and closing of high voltage circuit breaker such as GIS, GCB. Also, for correct characteristic of opening and closing, SOM consists of many links, joints and chains, cams so that variety of dynamic characteristics are occurred, especially huge contact forces between with CAM and ROLLER, LINK and STOPPER. Dynamic analysis and test technique are required to predict, estimate and validate forces acting to parts in the developing and designing stage. In this paper, multibody dynamic analysis was carried out for 145㎸ circuit breaker with SOM using the RecurDyn program. And the reliability of analysis is validated through the comparison with test data of opening and closing.
