이글은 1948년부터 2012년 현재까지 발표된 북한여성 관련 단행본과 학위 논문, 학술지 논문을 통해 전반적인 연구 동향을 분석하고자 한다. 구체적으로 북한여성 연구의 시대별 연구동향, 주제별 연구동향을 살펴보고, 인식론과 연구방법 측면에서 북한여성 연구의 쟁점을 분석하며, 북한여성 연구의 한계 및 과제를 밝혔다. 1970년대부터 시작된북한여성 연구는 1990년대에 활성화되 었으며 2000년 이후에는 외연의 성장뿐만 아니라 질적인 심화를 이루었다. 이글은 북한여성 연구의 주제를 12개-여성일반, 법 · 정책 · 제도, 가족, 지위 및 역할, 이데올로기 · 정치사회화 · 정치문화, 여성상 · 여성이미지, 육아 및 보육, 남북한여성의 교류와 통일, 건강과 보건 · 미용과 패션, 여맹 및 조직생활, 여성 경제활동, 기타-로 유형화하였다. 북한여성연구는 4개의 주제-여성일반, 법 · 정책 ·제도, 가족, 여성상 · 여성이미지-에 연구성과가 집중되어 있다. 이처럼 북한여성 연구는 특정 주제에 집중되어 있고, 총론 수준에서 논의되었다. 따라서 연구주제를 확장하여 다양하게 하는 한편 주제를 구체화해야 한다. 아울러 인식론의 재정립이 필요하다. 최근 북한여성 연구에서 여성주의 시각이 활용되는 것은 바람직하다. 연구 방법 측면에서 보면 이론의 부재, 정책 연구 중심, 기초연구의 부족 등의 문제를 지적할 수 있다. 연구방법 역시 다원화해야할 필요가 있다. 마지막으로 이 글은 장기적인 안목에서 ``여성연구``라는 큰 틀에서 북한여성 연구와 북한이탈여성 연구가 결합할 것을 제안해본다. This paper will show the general trend of North Korean Women researches through the books, theses and dissertations since 1948 to 2012. At first, the trend with the change of times and with the change of themes shall be analyzed, and the points in dispute shall be analyzed at the aspects of the epistemology and the methodology. And then the limit and the task of the North Korean Women researches shall be shown. The North Korean Women researches had been begun since ``70s, and was flourished in ``90s, and after 2000, it was not only grown in quantity but also deepened in quality. This paper will categorize the theme of North Korean Women researches to 12 patterns ; the women general, the law · the policy · the institution, the family, the status and role, the ideology, the political socialization, the political culture, the character and image of woman, the childcare and nurture, the woman interaction between South and North Korea and unification of Korean Peninsula, the health and sanitation, the beauty art and fashion, the "The Women`s Union" and the life of the organization, the women`s economic activity, and the others. The North Korean Women researches are usually concentrated to 4 themes ; the women general, the law · the policy · the institution, the family, the features and image of women. We can know that the North Korean Woman researches have been concentrated to the special themes and studied as the level of general introduction. Thus we should study the more concrete themes as well as the more extensional and various themes. And we need to rebuild the epistemology of the North Korean Woman researches. Nowadays the perspective of the feminism is used in this researches, I think it is desirable. At the aspect of methodology, the non-existence of the theory, the tendency to the study for South Korean government`s policy, the insufficiency of the fundamental researches are the problem to solve for the development of North Korean Woman researches. And we need to diversify the methodology, too. At the end of this paper, I will propose to combine the North Korean Women researches and the North Korean Women defector researches at the long perspective and as the grand level of women researches.

북한 여성의 삶을 역사화하기: 북한 여성사 연구의 동향과 과제

이 글은 그동안 국내 학계에서 이루어진 북한 여성사 연구 동향을 주제별로 살펴보고, 성과와 한계, 앞으로의 과제를 밝혔다. 북한 여성사 연구는한국전쟁과 여성 경험, 여성의 노동과 직업 생활, 국가와 모성·재생산, 여성의 섹슈얼리티, 시대별 여성의 삶, 여성 교육과 조직 생활, 여성 지도자와 인물, 남북한 여성사 비교 등의 주제로 이루어졌다. 연구 방법적으로는 여성의 구술사와 담론 분석으로 연구가 진행되었다. 북한 학계를 중심으로 다양한 학문의 장에서 북한 여성사 연구 성과물이 나오고 있는 점은성과라 할 수 있다. 하지만 북한 여성사 연구가 전체적인 편수도 적고주제 또한 다양하지 못한 점, 북한 여성사 연구의 이론과 방법론이 빈약한점, 제약된 연구 자료를 가지고 북한 여성사 전체를 이해해야 한다는 점, 여성주의 관점에 기초한 북한 여성사 연구가 나오고 있지만, 아직은 충분하지 않다는 점은 한계라 할 수 있다. 따라서 북한 여성사 연구는 연구주제를 보다 확대하고 이론과 연구 방법을 더욱 정교화해야 하며, 북한여성 연구에서 여성사 연구가 한 분과로 안착할 필요가 있다. 이 글은북한 여성사 연구의 성장을 위한 시론적 논의로, 앞으로 북한 여성사 연구의 방향을 모색하는 기초자료의 역할을 했다는 점에서 유의미하다.

2000년대 들어 탈북여성의 남한 입국이 남성 입국자 수를 추월하면서 여성에 초점을 둔 연구 또한 확대되어 갔다. 탈북여성에 대한 연구의 양적 성장과 더불어 내용의 다양성과 영역별 심층 분석 면에서도 성장하는 추세이다. 탈북여성의 입국 배경, 입국과정에서의 인권 침해, 사회적응 과정 등이 점차 성인지적 관점에서 영역별로 세분화되어 다뤄지는 것이다. 탈북여성 연구의 변화 추이 가운데 그 간의 연구성과를 돌아보고 향후 연구과제를 점검해 보는 것은 탈북여성 연구가 질적 성장을 거듭하기 위한 간과할 수 없는 과정이라 할 것이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 탈북여성 연구에서 나타나는 내용상의 주요 특징을 정리하고, 쟁점을 도출한 후 향후 연구과제를 제시하고자 하였다. 본 연구 결과 탈북여성 연구의 주요 동향과 특징은 연구영역의 확대, 생애주기별 세분화, 성인지적 관점의 연구 증대, 북한·탈북경로와 남한 입국 이후 삶의 맥락을 파악하고자 한 접근 등으로 구분할 수 있었다. 연구 동향에서 쟁점이 되고 있는 내용은 인권, 경제활동, 가족, 정신·육체적 건강 등으로 구분하여 각 영역별 쟁점을 살펴보았다. 또한 향후 연구과제로 탈북경로의 인과관계 루프(Causal Loop) 분석의 필요성, 탈북여성 인권 의미 확장과 맥락 분석, 성인지적 관점에서의 탈북여성 정착지원 논의 확장, 사회문화적 주체로서의 탈북여성 인지와 연구 필요성 등을 제시하였다. Female North Korean defectors entering South Korea started to outnumber their male counterparts in 2000, which has caused the researches focusing on women in such a situation to expand. The quantitative growth of researches on female North Korean defectors has been accompanied by the increasing diversity of content and in-depth analysis in each area. Such issues as the backgrounds behind their entry into South Korea, violation of their human rights in the process, and their social adaptation processes have been further segmented and addressed from a gender sensitive perspective. Reflecting on the results of the previous studies and reviewing future research tasks in the midst of changes to the study of female North Korean defectors are part of the essential elements in a process of the qualitative growth of the study field. Thus this study set out to sort out major characteristics of researches on female North Korean defectors in terms of content, identify controversial issues, and propose future research tasks. As a result, the major trends and characteristics of researches on female North Korean defectors can be categorized into expansion of research area, segmentation according to life cycles, increase of researches from a gender sensitive perspective, the route to escape North Korea, and approach to the understanding life context in South Korea. The controversial issues in research trends were examined according to human rights, economic activities, family, and mental and physical health. For future research tasks, the study also suggested a need to analyze the causal loop of the route to escape North Korea and the expansion of significance of female North Korean defectors` human rights and the contexts, expand discussions about how to support their settlement from a gender sensitive perspective, and recognize and study them as social and cultural subjects.
