This paper is concerned with the problem of fault detection filtering for a class of nonhomogeneous Markov jump systems with randomly occurring sensor saturations, where it is assumed that sensor saturation is randomly occur satisfying the Bernoulli distribution, meanwhile transition probabilities in nonhomogeneous Markov chain are time-varying. By employing the suitable Lyapunov technique in combination with Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs), some sufficient criteria are derived to guarantee that the augmented system is mean square stochastically stable with an H∞ performance level. Finally, a representative example of industrial stirred tank reactor systems is presented to illustrate the theoretical results, and it then turns out that the feasible filtering parameters can be exactly fixed by Matlab Tool Box, and the H∞ performance of the system can be fully guaranteed by the proposed control strategy.

Controlling matter at the nanoscale holds a lot of promise in nanotechnology. The DNA origami is promising if used as a template to design and arrange matter at the nanoscale. We have used the DNA origami approach to engineer staple strands at selected sites for attachment of gold nanoparticles. The covalent attachment of thiol-modified DNA oligomers was used to functionalize gold nanoparticles. These oligomers then hybridize with complementary strands extended on selected staple strands on the DNA origami surface with nanometer precision. Gold nanoparticles of 5 nm diameter were arranged across a DNA origami tube to form a C-shape which has potential use in electronics and plasmonics. Agarose gel electrophoresis, AFM, UV-Vis spectroscopy and TEM were used to characterize the structure.

Routing in disconnected delay-tolerant mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) continues to be a challenging issue. Several works have been done to address the routing issues using the social behaviors of each node. Mobile Social Networks (MSNs) are increasingly popular type of Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs). The routing performance improves when knowledge regarding the expected topology and the social context information of the networks. In this paper, we introduce a new metric for data forwarding based on social context information, in which node’s social context information is used to calculate the encounter utility between a node and destination, and the social relationship of network nodes is used to calculate the betweenness centrality utility of a node. We combine two utility functions to derive the social strength among users and their importance. We also present social context-based data forwarding algorithm for routing decision. Extensive simulations on real traces show that the introduced algorithm is more efficient than the existing algorithms.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a leading cause of cirrhosis. Recently, we showed that NASH‐related cirrhosis is associated with Hedgehog (Hh) pathway activation. The gene encoding osteopontin (OPN), a profibrogenic extracellular matrix protein and cytokine, is a direct transcriptional target of the Hh pathway. Thus, we hypothesize that Hh signaling induces OPN to promote liver fibrosis in NASH. Hepatic OPN expression and liver fibrosis were analyzed in wild‐type (WT) mice, Patched‐deficient (Ptc+/−) (overly active Hh signaling) mice, and OPN‐deficient mice before and after feeding methionine and choline–deficient (MCD) diets to induce NASH‐related fibrosis. Hepatic OPN was also quantified in human NASH and nondiseased livers. Hh signaling was manipulated in cultured liver cells to assess direct effects on OPN expression, and hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) were cultured in medium with different OPN activities to determine effects on HSC phenotype. When fed MCD diets, Ptc+/− mice expressed more OPN and developed worse liver fibrosis (<I>P</I> < 0.05) than WT mice, whereas OPN‐deficient mice exhibited reduced fibrosis (<I>P</I> < 0.05). In NASH patients, OPN was significantly up‐regulated and correlated with Hh pathway activity and fibrosis stage. During NASH, ductular cells strongly expressed OPN. In cultured HSCs, SAG (an Hh agonist) up‐regulated, whereas cyclopamine (an Hh antagonist) repressed OPN expression (<I>P</I> < 0.005). Cholangiocyte‐derived OPN and recombinant OPN promoted fibrogenic responses in HSCs (<I>P</I> < 0.05); neutralizing OPN with RNA aptamers attenuated this (<I>P</I> < 0.05). <I>Conclusion:</I> OPN is Hh‐regulated and directly promotes profibrogenic responses. OPN induction correlates with Hh pathway activity and fibrosis stage. Therefore, OPN inhibition may be beneficial in NASH (H<SMALL>EPATOLOGY</SMALL> 2011)</P>
