A Study of Exploring Aspects of Korean Elementary School Teachers’ Role Expectations for Sports Instructors

( Yongnam Park ) 한국체육학회 2018 International journal of human movement science Vol.12 No.1

This qualitative study aimed to explore elementary school (ES) teachers’ role expectations for sports instructors (SIs) and the contexts that influence such expectations. The participants were six ES teachers who had team teaching experience with SIs and who frequently interacted with SIs outside of the classroom. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and documents such as the SI management plan. The data were analysed using inductive analysis. The trustworthiness of data was enhanced through peer debriefing and member checks with the participants. The findings revealed that the participants had three role expectations for SIs. These were influenced by each participant’s three role identities. First, as a team teaching partner, participants expected SIs who have a better understanding of physical education (PE) and students to perform as “semi-ES teachers”. Second, participants expected SIs to perform the role of “sports coach”, helping to produce better outcomes in school sports competitions, as a PE department head (member). Third, as a middle manager, they thought of SIs as “cooperative co-workers” who could adapt well to the school culture. These findings suggest that ES teachers’ identity confusion for SIs depended on the context of the interaction, which formed different role expectations for SIs.

Eye Movement Program Consisting of Saccadic Eye Movement and Pursuit Eye Movement Improved Visual Memory in Institutionalized Elderly Person: Randomized controlled pilot study

Yongnam Park,Youngsook Bae 국제물리치료연구학회 2019 Journal of International Academy of Physical Ther Vol.10 No.2

Background: Aging reduces cognitive abilities, including visual memory (VM) and visual discrimination (VD). Since common cortical networks subserve eye movement and attention, voluntary eye movement may improve visual attention. Visual selective attention was major role for memory, and visual memory and visual attention are intimately related. Objective: To identify the improvement in VD and VM, after implementing the eye movement program consisting of saccadic eye movement (SEM) and pursuit eye movement (PEM) in the institutionalized healthy elderly. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Methods: The study involved a sample of 36 participants, and the mean age was 79.03 years (range 76~84 years). They were randomly allocated to the experimental group (n=16) and control group (n=20). Participants in the experimental group performed SEM 5 times per week for 4 weeks: twice daily at the same time in the morning and afternoon. The program was carried out for 3 minutes, and it consisted of SEM and PEM. The target’s moving frequency was set at 0.5 Hz. VM and VD at the baseline and post-intervention were measured using Motor-Free Visual Perception test-4 (MFVPT-4). Results: VM significantly improved in the experimental group (p < .01), and significant differences were observed compared to the control group (p < .01). There was no significant change in VD. Conclusion: The eye movement program consisting of SEM and PEM increased VM more than VD. Therefore, eye movement program was feasible interventions for improving VM in institutionalized elderly persons.

      • Gravity-driven clustering of inertial particles in turbulence.

Park, Yongnam,Lee, Changhoon Published by the American Physical Society through 2014 Physical review. E, Statistical, nonlinear, and so Vol.89 No.6

We report a different kind of particle clustering caused purely by gravity, discovered in our simulation of particle-laden turbulence. Clustering in a vertical strip pattern forms when strong gravity acts on heavy particles. This phenomenon is explained by the skewness of the flow velocity gradient in the gravitational direction experienced by particles, which causes horizontal convergence of particles.

국외 포괄적 학교체육 프로그램의 특징과 시사점 탐색

        박용남(YongNam Park) 한국스포츠교육학회 2018 한국스포츠교육학회지 Vol.25 No.2

This study aimed to provide educational implications for the field of domestic school physical activity and further studies by analyzing the studies related to Comprehensive School Physical Activity Program(CSPAP) which is gaining global attention recently. CSPAP was a national campaign with neoliberal characteristics, introduced to fulfill the recommended time of student physical activity in each country. It was revealed that the common key content of CSPAPs in major countries was to look at schools from a comprehensive perspective and to secure the physical activity time as much as possible using available resources inside and outside the school under the partnership with parents and local communities. The research finding implies that CSPAP has a potential as a Korean school physical activity framework and there is a need to perform professional work among school community members for operation of school physical activity and to develop a Korean CSPAP, based on socio-ecological investigations.

가상현실 스포츠실 활용 체육수업의 효과 및 한계점

        박용남(YongNam Park),윤기준(Keejoon Yoon) 한국스포츠교육학회 2020 한국스포츠교육학회지 Vol.27 No.4

The purpose of this project was to explore aspects of using virtual reality in physical education(VR-PE). Five elementary schools participated in this project. Data were collected through interviews with teachers and document analysis. Inductive category analysis was employed for data analysis. The VR-PE was effective to overcome weather conditions and for pupils who had experiences of passive participation in PE lessons. Low level of technology of VR-PE, having no connection with PE curricula, lack of academic learning time in PE and maintenance of equipment of VR were limitations. Exploring ways in which to maximise the effectiveness of using VR-PE and to connect contents of VR-PE to national PE curriculum were discussed.

      • 등방성 난류에서 입자의 회전에 의한 분산 특성의 변화

        박용남(Yongnam Park),이창훈(Changhoon Lee) 대한기계학회 2008 대한기계학회 춘추학술대회 Vol.2008 No.11

Effect of a particle’s spin is investigated numerically by considering the effect of lift occurring due to difference of rotations of a particle and of fluid such as the Saffman lift and Magnus force. These lift forces have been neglected in many previous works on particle-laden turbulence. The trajectory of particles can be changed by the lift forces, resulting in significant modification of the stochastic characteristics of heavy particles. Probability density functions and autocorrelations are examined of velocity, acceleration of solid particle and acceleration of fluid at the position of solid particle. Changes in velocity statistics are negligible but statistics related with acceleration are a little bit changed by particle’s rotation. When a laden particle encounters with coherent structures during the motion, the particle’s rotation might significantly affects the motion due to intermittently large fluid acceleration near coherent structures.
