      • DH-LRU: Dynamic Hybrid LRU Caching Scheme for PRAM/DRAM Hybrid Main Memory

        Yongjian Ren,Hongtianchen Xie,Gangyong Jia,Jilin Zhang,Yuyu Yin,Jian Wan 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Grid and Distributed Comp Vol.9 No.11

Both performance and capacity of the main memory are the key to the computer systems in current architecture. DRAM, which is the most used main memory, can’t extend in capacity for its high energy consumption and repeatedly refresh. Fortunately, some new memory mediums, such as phase-change memory (PRAM), are used to replace traditional DRAM memory. These new memories have many advantages, like low energy consumption, without repeatedly refresh, high density storage, and so on. Therefore, these memories are promising. However, their low read/write performance and limited life are restricted the replacement process. In current time, hybrid memory, which consists of both PRAM and DRAM, is a good choice. In this way, the memory capacity can be extended. So, the most challenge for the hybrid memory is the performance. In this paper, we propose a dynamic hybrid LRU caching scheme (DH-LRU) for the last level cache in PRAM/DRAM hybrid main memory to improve the main memory performance. Compared with traditional cache policies, like LRU, FIFO, RANDOM, CFLRU, our DH-LRU improves performance by 4.6%. Moreover, energy consumption of write and read operation can be reduced up to 88.2%.

      • Workload Characterization on a Cloud Platform: An Early Experience

        Zujie Ren,Jinxiang Dong,Yongjian Ren,Renjie Zhou,Xindong You 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Grid and Distributed Comp Vol.9 No.6

Understanding the characteristics of cloud workloads is the key to making optimal configuration decisions and improving the system throughput. However workload characterization of cloud, especially in a large-scale production environment, has not been well studied yet. To gain insights on cloud workloads, we collected a one-week workload trace from a 100-node cloud cluster which hosts 1082 virtual machines. We characterized the workload at the granularity of virtual machines and physical nodes, respectively. We concluded with a set of meaningful observations. The results of workload characterization are representative and generally consistent with cloud cluster for public IaaS service providers, which can help other researchers and engineers understand the performance and VM characteristics of the cloud in their production environments.

Clinical Evidence of Chemotherapy or Endocrine Therapy Maintenance in Patients with Metastatic Breast Cancer: Meta-analysis from Randomized Clinical Trials and Propensity Score Matching of Multicentre Cohort Study

        Wei Ren,Yunfang Yu,Huangming Hong,Ying Wang,Quanlong Gao,Yongjian Chen,Peixian Chen,Jianli Zhao,Qiyun Ou,Dagui Lin,Tuping Fu,Yujie Tan,Chenchen Li,Xinxin Xie,Guolin Ye,Jun Tang,Herui Yao 대한암학회 2022 Cancer Research and Treatment Vol.54 No.4

Purpose This study aims to comprehensively evaluate the clinical efficacy of chemotherapy or endocrine therapy maintenance in metastatic breast cancer (MBC) patients. Materials and Methods The meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials (RCTs) and propensity score matching of multicenter cohort study evaluated MBC patients who underwent first-line chemotherapy or endocrine therapy maintenance. This study is registered with PROSPERO: CRD42017071858 and ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT04258163. Results A total of 2,867 patients from 15 RCTs and 760 patients from multicenter cohort were included. The results from meta-analysis showed that chemotherapy maintenance improved progression-free survival (PFS) (hazard ratio [HR], 0.63; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.54 to 0.73; p < 0.001; moderate-quality evidence) and overall survival (OS) (HR, 0.87; 95% CI, 0.78 to 0.97; p=0.016; high-quality evidence) than observation. In the cohort study, for hormone receptor–positive MBC patients, chemotherapy maintenance improved PFS (HR, 0.67; 95% CI, 0.52 to 0.85; p < 0.001) and OS (HR, 0.55; 95% CI, 0.42 to 0.73; p < 0.001) compared with observation, and endocrine therapy maintenance also improved PFS (HR, 0.65; 95% CI, 0.53 to 0.80; p < 0.001) and OS (HR, 0.55; 95% CI, 0.44 to 0.69; p < 0.001). There were no differences between chemotherapy and endocrine therapy maintenance in PFS and OS (all p > 0.05). Regardless of the continuum or switch maintenance therapy, showed prolonged survival in MBC patients who were response to first-line treatment. Conclusion This study provided evidences for survival benefits of chemotherapy and endocrine therapy maintenance in MBC patients, and there was no difference efficacy between chemotherapy and endocrine therapy maintenance for hormone receptor–positive patients.
