Social Network Aware Device-to-Device Communication in Wireless Networks

        Yanru Zhang,Pan, Erte,Lingyang Song,Saad, Walid,Dawy, Zaher,Zhu Han IEEE 2015 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS Vol.14 No.1

<P>Device-to-device (D2D) communication is seen as a major technology to overcome the imminent wireless capacity crunch and to enable new application services. In this paper, a novel social-aware approach for optimizing D2D communication by exploiting two layers, namely the social network layer and the physical wireless network layer, is proposed. In particular, the physical layer D2D network is captured via the users' encounter histories. Subsequently, an approach, based on the so-called Indian Buffet Process, is proposed to model the distribution of contents in the users' online social networks. Given the social relations collected by the base station, a new algorithm for optimizing the traffic offloading process in D2D communications is developed. In addition, the Chernoff bound and approximated cumulative distribution function (cdf) of the offloaded traffic are derived and the validity of the bound and cdf is proven. Simulation results based on real traces demonstrate the effectiveness of our model and show that the proposed approach can offload the network's traffic successfully.</P>

      • Contract-Based Incentive Mechanisms for Device-to-Device Communications in Cellular Networks

        Yanru Zhang,Lingyang Song,Saad, Walid,Dawy, Zaher,Zhu Han IEEE 2015 IEEE journal on selected areas in communications Vol.33 No.10

<P>Device-to-device (D2D) communication is viewed as one promising technology for boosting the capacity of wireless networks and the efficiency of resource management. D2D communication heavily depends on the participation of users in sharing contents. Thus, it is imperative to introduce new incentive mechanisms to motivate such user involvement. In this paper, a contract-theoretic approach is proposed to solve the problem of providing incentives for D2D communication in cellular networks. First, using the framework of contract theory, the users' preferences toward D2D communication are classified into a finite number of types, and the service trading between the base station and users is properly modeled. Next, necessary and sufficient conditions are derived to provide incentives for users' engagement in D2D communication. Finally, our analysis is extended to the case in which there is a continuum of users. Simulation results show that the contract can effectively incentivize users' participation, and increase capacity of the cellular network than the other mechanisms.</P>

Glasgow prognostic score and combined positive score for locally advanced rectal cancer

        Yanru Feng,Jialin Luo,Peng Liu,Luying Liu,Yuan Zhu,Guoping Cheng,Linfeng Zheng 대한외과학회 2022 Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research(ASRT) Vol.102 No.3

Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the association of Glasgow prognostic score (GPS), combined positive score (CPS), and clinicopathological characteristics of locally advanced rectal cancer. Methods: Between February 2012 and February 2018, 103 patients with locally advanced rectal cancer treated by neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy and total mesorectal excision (TME) were retrospectively evaluated. Results: According to the classification of the GPS, 85 (82.5%), 13 (12.6%), and 5 patients (4.9%) were classified as a score of 0, 1, and 2, respectively. Patients were classified into the GPS-low group (GPS of 0, n = 85) and GPS-high group (GPS of 1 or 2, n = 18) with an area under the curve of 0.582 for overall survival (OS). The mean programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) CPS of the whole group was 2.24 (range, 0–70). The PD-L1 CPS of the GPS-high group was higher than the GPS-low group (P < 0.001). Multivariate analysis by Cox proportional hazards model indicated that GPS was associated with OS and disease- free survival (DFS). Furthermore, PD-L1 CPS was associated with DFS (hazard ratio, 1.050; 95% confidence interval, 1.017– 1.083; P = 0.003). Conclusion: Elevated GPS was related to the PD-L1 CPS. GPS and PD-L1 CPS were associated with the prognosis of locally advanced rectal cancer treated with neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy followed by TME.

      • A Social-Aware Framework for Efficient Information Dissemination in Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

        Zhang, Yanru,Song, Lingyang,Jiang, Chunxiao,Tran, Nguyen H.,Dawy, Zaher,Han, Zhu IEEE 2017 IEEE communications magazine Vol.55 No.1

<P>In wireless ad hoc networks, each node participates in routing by forwarding data to other nodes without a pre-existing infrastructure. Particularly, with the wide adoption of smart devices, the concept of smartphone ad hoc networks (SPANs) has evolved to enable alternate means for information sharing. Using unlicensed frequency spectrum and short-range wireless technologies, a SPAN enables a new paradigm of applications and thus is seen as an attractive component in future wireless networks. In a SPAN, smartphones form local peer-to-peer networks to cooperate and share information efficiently. Recent studies have shown that if the users' social relations are considered while designing cooperation schemes and protocols in SPANs, the cooperation initialization and content dissemination can be notably improved to increase the overall network efficiency and communications reliability. In this article, we present a social-aware framework for optimizing SPANs by exploiting two layers: users' relationships in the online social network layer and users' offline connections and interactions in the physical wireless network layer. The online content popularity distribution is also studied as a result of the users' online interaction profiles. In the end, we integrate both online and offline layers, and discuss possible applications to further enhance the network performance.</P>

      • Multi-Dimensional Incentive Mechanism in Mobile Crowdsourcing with Moral Hazard

        Zhang, Yanru,Gu, Yunan,Pan, Miao,Tran, Nguyen H.,Dawy, Zaher,Han, Zhu IEEE 2018 IEEE transactions on mobile computing Vol.17 No.3

<P>In current wireless communication systems, there is a rapid development of location based services, which will play an essential role in the future 5G networks. One key feature in providing the service is the mobile crowdsourcing in which a central cloud node denoted as the principal collects location based data from a large group of users. In this paper, we investigate the problem of how to provide continuous incentives based on user’s performances to encourage users’ participation in the crowdsourcing, which can be referred to the moral hazard problem in the contract theory. We not only propose the one-dimensional performance-reward related contract, but also extend this basic model into the multi-dimensional contract. First, an incentive contract which rewards users by evaluating their performances from multiple dimensions is proposed. Then, the utility maximization problem of the principal in both one-dimension and multi-dimension are formulated. Furthermore, we detailed the analysis of the multi-dimensional contract to allocate incentives. Finally, we use the numerical results to analyze the optimal reward package, and compare the principal’s utility under the different incentive mechanisms. Results demonstrate that by using the proposed incentive mechanism, the principal successfully maximizes the utilities, and the users obtain continuous incentives to participate in the crowdsourcing activity.</P>

LC-MS/MS-based Quantification of Ten Neurotransmitters in Rat Limbic System and Serum: Application to Chronic Unpredictable Mild Stress- Induced Depression Rats

        Mingyan Ma,Qiangxiang Chen,Wen Cao,Yubo Zhou,Aijuan Yan,Yanru Zhu 사단법인 한국질량분석학회 2023 Mass spectrometry letters Vol.14 No.3

As one of the most common mood disorders, numerous studies have shown depression is the main risk factor for non-suicidal self-harm. The pathogenesis of depression is complex, and a comprehensive and rapid measurement of monoamine neurotransmitters and their metabolites will be very helpful in understanding the pathogenesis of depression. Therefore, a rapid and sensitive underivatized liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method was developed and validated for the simultaneous monitoring of the levels of ten neurotransmitters and their metabolites in rat serum and limbic system and success- fully applied to quantify the changes of neurotransmitter levels in chronic unpredictable mild stress-induced rats. The analytes studied were mainly involved in tyrosine metabolism, tryptophan metabolism, and glutamate cycling pathways, which are important in the pathogenesis of depression. It had been verified the method was sensitive and effective, with satisfactory linear- ity, and met the requirements of biological sample determination. Levels of neurotransmitters in rat serum, hippocampus, amyg- dala, prefrontal cortex, striatum, and hypothalamus were determined via the method. The results showed serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine, and their metabolites were decreased, glutamine was increased, and glutamate was disturbed in chronic unpre- dictable mild stress-induced depression rats. This method provides a new approach to studying the pathogenesis of depression and other neurological disorders.
