The Detection of Osthole and Application of Cell Imaging Based on Nitrogen-Doped Carbon Dots

A fluorescence probe has been synthesized for the detection of osthole using the nitrogen-doped carbon dots (NCDs) as shown in Fig. 1. The NCDs were fully characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Under the optimal experimental conditions, the NCDs fluorescence probe was highly selective and sensitive to osthole. The linear response range for osthole was 5.0–7 5μM with a detection limit of 38 nM. The mechanism of the interaction of osthole and NCDs was discussed. The fluorescence probe has been applied to the analysis of biological samples. The as-synthesized NCDs with high fluorescence intensity, low toxicity and good biocompatibility were applied to cell imaging.
Delay-Constrained Optimal Transmission With Proactive Spectrum Handoff in Cognitive Radio Networks

<P>In this paper, we investigate the transmission strategy for cognitive radios (CRs), which opportunistically operate on various primary users' channels with the aid of proactive spectrum handoff. In particular, a secondary user (SU) in the CR network proactively predicts the future spectrum status and decides whether to keep idle, or stay in the current channel, or switch to a new channel to resume its transmission. A problem of completing a target data packet size of V bits within a predefined deadline D time slots is formulated as a discrete-time Markov decision process, in which the SU aims at minimizing its expected total cost, i.e., transmission cost, handoff cost, and overtime penalty. We solve the problem using dynamic programming, and propose a general optimal transmission with the proactive spectrum handoff (OTPH) algorithm whose complexity is 2 x vertical bar V vertical bar x D. Furthermore, we prove that for a convex penalty function, the optimal handoff-aided transmission exhibits a threshold structure. A monotone OTPH algorithm with a complexity of max(vertical bar V vertical bar, D) is used in this case. Simulation results verify that our proposed scheme achieves both the minimal total cost and the highest data transmission efficiency as compared with the traditional always staying and always changing schemes.</P>
Preparation and characterization of epoxidized microbial oil

The potential of microbial oil derived from yeasts through fermentation using crops biomass for the formation of plasticizers was investigated. Plasticizers were formed via epoxidation reaction. Five factors of the orthogonal experiment (reaction temperature, time, weight ratio of H2O2/MO, H2SO4/MO, and HCOOH/MO) have been used for optimization of parameters. To further enhance the iodine value of microbial oil and increase the epoxy value of the epoxide, an amount of soybean oil was added. The products were characterized by FTIR, 13C-NMR and 1H-NMR. Under the optimum condition, the epoxy value and the iodine value of epoxide product were 6.21% and 1.8 g I2/100 g with a yield of 91.86% at an oil conversion of 98.43%. This study successfully demonstrated the conversion of crops biomass into value-added chemicals using simple and conventional chemical reactions.
