        Clinical Uses of Diffusion Tensor Imaging Fiber Tracking Merged Neuronavigation with Lesions Adjacent to Corticospinal Tract : A Retrospective Cohort Study

        Objective : To investigate the efficiency of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) fiber-tracking based neuronavigation and assess its usefulness in the preoperative surgical planning, prognostic prediction, intraoperative course and outcome improvement. Methods : Seventeen patients with cerebral masses adjacent to corticospinal tract (CST) were given standard magnetic resonance imaging and DTI examination. By incorporation of DTI data, the relation between tumor and adjacent white matter tracts was reconstructed and assessed in the neuronavigation system. Distance from tumor border to CST was measured. Results : The sub-portion of CST in closest proximity to tumor was found displaced in all patients. The chief disruptive changes were classified as follows : complete interruption, partial interruption, or simple displacement. Partial interruption was evident in seven patients (41.2%) whose lesions were close to cortex. In the other 10 patients (58.8%), delineated CSTs were intact but distorted. No complete CST interruption was identified. Overall, the mean distance from resection border to CST was 6.12 mm (range, 0-21), as opposed to 8.18 mm (range, 2-21) with simple displacement and 2.33 mm (range, 0-5) with partial interruption. The clinical outcomes were analyzed in groups stratified by intervening distances (close, <5 mm; moderated, 5-10 mm; far, >10 mm). For the primary brain tumor patients, the proportion of completely resected tumors increased progressively from close to far grouping (42.9%, 50%, and 100%, respectively). Five patients out of seven (71.4%) experienced new neurologic deficits postoperatively in the close group. At meantime, motor deterioration was found in six cases in the close group. All patients in the far and moderate groups received excellent (modified Rankin Scale [mRS] score, 0-1) or good (mRS score, 2-3) rankings, but only 57.1% of patients in the close group earned good outcome scores. Conclusion : DTI fiber tracking based neuronavigation has merit in assessing the relation between lesions and adjacent white matter tracts, allowing prediction of patient outcomes based on lesion-CST distance. It has also proven beneficial in formulating surgical strategies.

        Recent trends of supercritical CO<sub>2</sub> Brayton cycle: Bibliometric analysis and research review

        Supercritical CO<sub>2</sub> (S-CO<sub>2</sub>) Brayton cycle has been applied to various heat sources in recent decades, owing to the characteristics of compact structure and high efficiency. Understanding the research development in this emerging research field is crucial for future study. Thus, a bibliometric approach is employed to analyze the scientific publications of S-CO<sub>2</sub> cycle field from 2000 to 2019. In Scopus database, there were totally 724 publications from 1378 authors and 543 institutes, which were distributed over 55 countries. Based on the software-BibExcel, these publications were analyzed from various aspects, such as major research areas, affiliations and keyword occurrence frequency. Furthermore, parameters such as citations, hot articles were also employed to evaluate the research output of productive countries, institutes and authors. The analysis showed that each paper has been cited 13.39 times averagely. United States was identified as the leading country in S-CO<sub>2</sub> research followed by China and South Korea. Based on the contents of publications, existing researches on S-CO<sub>2</sub> are briefly reviewed from the five aspects, namely application, cycle configurations and modeling, CO<sub>2</sub>-based mixtures, system components, and experiments. Future development is suggested to accelerate the commercialization of S-CO<sub>2</sub> power system.

        Tough antifouling organogels reinforced by the synergistic effect of oleophobic and dipole–dipole interactions

        Slippery organogels have gained increasing interest as competitive candidates for antifouling applications. However, it remains challenging to develop tough organogels suitable for fouling resistance indynamic and flexible application scenarios. Herein, a kind of physically crosslinked organogels with acombination of desirable properties, including high toughness, transparency, surface slipperiness, andfouling resistance is developed. The representative pAL organogels, constructed by poly(acrylonitrileco-lauryl acrylate) (pAL) copolymer and infiltrated with n-hexadecane as a lubricating solvent, possesshigh tensile fracture stress, fracture strain, Young’s modulus, and toughness of 4.28 MPa, 517%,2.52 MPa, and 11.19 MJ m3. In the organogels, the polar cyano groups from the pAN segments serveas physical cross-linking points, where the synergistic effects played by oleophobic and dipole–dipoleinteractions significantly toughen the materials. Meanwhile, the soft oleophilic poly(lauryl acrylate)chains offer considerable solvent content, giving rise to satisfactory surface slipperiness. Therefore, theorganogels bring about a 57.16% and 81.50% reduction of protein and bacteria adhesion in comparisonto the control. The satisfactory antifouling performance has been further confirmed with Spirulina platensis. It is deemed that this organogel may provide great potential for various applications in the future suchas anti-adhesion materials and self-cleaning coating.
