‘Gamro’ pear originated from a cross ‘Niitaka’ and ‘Shinsui’ made in 1986 at National Horticultural Research Institute, Rural Development Administration, Suwon, Korea was preliminarily selected as ‘86-2-51’ in 1992 for its high fruit quality with good edible characteristics for summer season. After regional adaptability test at nine sites for 4 years from 1993 to 1996 as ‘Wonkyo Na-16’, it was finally selected in 1996. It blooms 2 days earlier than ‘Shinsui’ on April 1 during 1992?1996. ‘Gamro’ is vigorous in tree growth and upright-spreading in tree habit. Chemical control of scab (Venturia nashicolia) is necessary at optimum time, since ‘Gamro’ is susceptible to the disease like ‘Shinsui’. ‘Gamro’ produces little pollen grains with cross-incompatibility with ‘Minibae’ and ‘Sunhwang’. Therefore, it cannot be used as a single pollinizer for almost all cultivars. Optimum fruit harvest time is August 27, 4 days later than ‘Shinsui’ during 1992?1996 at Suwon (37˚15'N, 127˚00'E). Its fruit is roundish oblate in shape and yellowish green in skin color. Average fruit weight is 310 g and soluble solids content is 13.8˚Brix. Fruit flesh is very juicy and has negligible grit.
