Mg(OH)2/Graphene Nanocomposites Prepared by Cathodic Electrodeposition for the Adsorption of Congo Red

        Xinzhong Deng,Yao-wu Wang,Jianping Peng,Kejia Liu,Nai-xiang Feng,Yuezhong Di 성균관대학교(자연과학캠퍼스) 성균나노과학기술원 2017 NANO Vol.12 No.2

A facile cathodic electrodeposition process was developed to prepare Mg(OH)2/Graphene nanocomposites (MGN), which was used to remove Congo Red (CR), an anionic dye from aqueous solution. The morphology and phase structure were analyzed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The effects of experimental parameters, such as graphene content, adsorption time, initial concentrations of CR and pH values, on the adsorption capacity of CR were studied. The obtained MGN shows the good performance in CR, with an adsorption capacity of 1986.43 mg g-1. The equilibrium adsorption and kinetics data fit with Langmuir isotherm and the pseudo-second-order model, respectively. Thermodynamic data suggest that CR adsorption onto MGN is spontaneous (ΔG0 : –9.62 kJ mol-1 at 313 K, endothermic (ΔH0 : 36.261 kJ mol-1) and the degree of disorder increased (ΔS0 : 146.848 J moL-1 K-1) at the solidsolution interface. Moreover, the adsorption activation energy (Ea: 38.929 kJ mol-1) of CR evaluated from the Arrhenius equation illustrates that it is a physical process. This adsorbent exhibits efficient adsorption properties and high recycling efficiency, making it a promising adsorbent for removing anionic dyes.

FBXL20-mediated Vps34 ubiquitination as a p53 controlled checkpoint in regulating autophagy and receptor degradation

        Xiao, Juan,Zhang, Tao,Xu, Daichao,Wang, Huibing,Cai, Yu,Jin, Taijie,Liu, Min,Jin, Mingzhi,Wu, Kejia,Yuan, Junying Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press 2015 Genes & development Vol.29 No.2

Vps34, the catalytic subunit in the class III phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase complexes, mediates the production of PtdIns3P, a key intracellular lipid involved in regulating autophagy and receptor degradation. Xiao et al. show that DNA damage-activated mitotic arrest and CDK activation lead to the phosphorylation of Vps34. This provides a signal to promote Vps34 ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation mediated by FBXL20, leading to inhibition of autophagy and receptor endocytosis. Importantly, they also find that expression of FBXL20 is regulated by p53-dependent transcription.

Vacuolar protein-sorting 34 (Vps34), the catalytic subunit in the class III PtdIns3 (phosphatidylinositol 3) kinase complexes, mediates the production of PtdIns3P, a key intracellular lipid involved in regulating autophagy and receptor degradation. However, the signal transduction pathways by which extracellular signals regulate Vps34 complexes and the downstream cellular mechanisms are not well understood. Here we show that DNA damage-activated mitotic arrest and CDK activation lead to the phosphorylation of Vps34, which provides a signal to promote its ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation mediated by FBXL20 (an F-box protein) and the associated Skp1 (S-phase kinase-associated protein-1)–Cullin1 complex, leading to inhibition of autophagy and receptor endocytosis. Furthermore, we show that the expression of FBXL20 is regulated by p53-dependent transcription. Our study provides a molecular pathway by which DNA damage regulates Vps34 complexes and its downstream mechanisms, including autophagy and receptor endocytosis, through SCF (Skp1–Cul1–F-box)-mediated ubiquitination and degradation. Since the expression of FBXL20 is regulated by p53-dependent transcription, the control of Vps34 ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation by FBXL20 and the associated SCF complex expression provides a novel checkpoint for p53 to regulate autophagy and receptor degradation in DNA damage response.

Investigation on the microstructure and fracture behavior of super-eutectic ZA alloy welded joint by pulse fiber laser

        Fei Yan,Xiaozhong Du,Fang Chai,Chunming Wang,Kejia Zhuang,Juan Zhao,Wei Wang 대한기계학회 2018 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.32 No.6

In this study, we present the experimental laser welding of super-eutectic ZA alloy. Microstructures of the ZA alloy′s bond area welded by pulsed laser were investigated using an optical microscope, scanning electron microscope, energy diffraction spectrum and X-Ray diffractometer. The results showed that microstructures in the weld mainly consisted of threadlike columnar crystals, coarse dendrites and fine equiaxed grains. Secondary particles were produced in the interdendritic zones because of the composition segregation. A poor Al area was formed inside the η grain while a rich Al area takes shape outside the η grain. The occurrence of the composition segregation can increase the grain boundary cracking tendency. The existence of a large number of η phase greatly intensified the brittle of this material. The presence of many cleavage steps in the fractograph principally depended on the secondary cleavage effect between two cleavage cracks on different planes. The evolution of cracks along the twinning plane was the result of the secondary cleavage substituting for the twinning deformation in the vicinity of the crack tip.

Effects of the costoclavicular block versus interscalene block in patients undergoing arthroscopic shoulder surgery under monitored anesthesia care: a randomized, prospective, non-inferiority study

        Luo Quehua,Zheng Junyi,Yang Caiqi,Wei Wei,Wang Kejia,Xiang Xiaobing,Yao Weifeng 대한마취통증의학회 2023 Korean Journal of Anesthesiology Vol.76 No.5

Background: Recent studies have reported that costoclavicular blocks (CCBs) can consistently block almost all branches of the brachial plexus while sparing the phrenic nerve and provide effective analgesia after shoulder surgery. We aimed to compare the efficacy of the CCB with that of the interscalene block (ISB) as the sole blocking technique for shoulder surgery. Methods: A total of 212 patients undergoing elective arthroscopic shoulder surgery were randomized to receive an ISB or CCB based on a non-inferiority design. All patients received titration sedation with propofol under monitored anesthesia during surgery. The primary outcomes were the proportion of patients with complete motor blockade of the suprascapular nerve (SSN) and incidence of hemidiaphragmatic paralysis (HDP). The secondary outcomes included block-related variables, complications, and postoperative pain scores. Results: The proportion of patients with complete motor blockade of the SSN at 20 min between the CCB and ISB groups (53% vs. 66%) exceeded the predefined non-inferiority margin of −5%, but was comparable at 30 min (87% vs. 91%). The CCB resulted in a significantly lower incidence of HDP (7.55% vs. 92.45%), Horner’s syndrome (0% vs. 18.87%), and dyspnea (0% vs. 10.38%) than the ISB. None of the patients experienced failed blocks or required conversion to general anesthesia. Pain scores were comparable between the groups. Conclusions: Ultrasound-guided CCBs may be comparable to ISBs, with fewer unfavorable complications in patients with impaired lung function undergoing arthroscopic shoulder surgery.
