        Preparation of barium sulphate nanocrystals in ethanol - water mixed solvents

        Precipitation of nanoparticles is an important production procedure in industry to receive nano materials that are widely used in many fields. The product properties are strongly dependent on the properties of the particles i.e., average size, size distribution and morphology. The specific properties and applications of barium sulphate nanoparticles have attracted intensive investigation. There are numerous tedious techniques for synthesis of nano particles. However, in this study, barium sulphate nanoparticles were successfully synthesized using an ordinary chemical precipitation technique. Barium sulphate nanoparticles were synthesized using barium chloride and ammonium sulphate as reagents by an ordinary precipitation process in the presence of ethanol/water mixed solvents. Different compositions of ethanol/water mixed solvents were taken for this synthesis process. Precipitated samples were characterized using scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. The size and morphology were determined using XRD and SEM techniques respectively. From the XRD results, the sizes of the particles ranged from 85nm to 54nm. The particle sizes are decreased when the vol.% of ethanol is increased.

        Diagnosis of Non-invasive Glucose Monitoring by Integrating IoT and Machine Learning

        Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a term collectively used for all types of diabetes. DM increases the risk factor for health complications if not treated early. The Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare have become a huge benefit for managing DM. The selfsupervision of healthcare has become convenient because of IoT-enabled devices. This paper reviews the management of diabetes, such as invasive, non-invasive, and minimally invasive methods. Justification for the need for non-invasive monitoring of glucose is discussed. Different AI and IoT-enabled management for non-invasive diabetes are also briefed. This review aims at the type of machine learning algorithms applied to non-invasive glucose monitoring. The following are to be considered to achieve an effective non-invasive method of monitoring glucose: Near Infrared spectroscopy (NIR) and Machine learning algorithms(ML). IoT in glucose monitoring has empowered doctors and caretakers to deliver outstanding care. Self-care by every person has become essential, which can be achieved by handheld or wearable IoT devices. Using current technologies, the possibility of making a wearable to monitor the glucose level is becoming closer to reality and has enormous potential.

        Ameliorative potential of Saudi Arabian date fruit (Phoenix dactylifera L.) varieties against Freund’s complete adjuvant induced arthritis in rats

        We evaluated the beneficial effects of some varieties of Saudi Arabian date fruits against Freund’s complete adjuvant (FCA)- induced rheumatoid arthritis in rats. Arthritic rats were treated orally for 30 days with methanolic extracts of Sukkari, Ekhlass Almajmaah, Abu Minifee and Dawee verities [500 mg/kg body weight (BW)] and Indomethacin (10 mg/kg BW) administered as standard for comparison. We evaluated the effects of the extracts on arthritis (paw volume and arthritis score), body weight, renal marker levels, and bone metabolic enzymes as well as the antioxidant activities in the experimental and control rats. All verities of date fruit extracts were significantly decreased the arthritis which was evident with arthritis score, paw volume as well as the maintenance of biochemical parameters and antioxidant activities. The present study was suggested that date fruit extracts has prominent anti-arthritic activity which may be attributed to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities.

        Carbon based manganese oxide (MnO2, MnO2/MWCNT and MnO2/rGO) composite electrodes for high-stability Li-ion batteries

        Synthesis of extremely competent materials is of great interest in addressing the energy storage concerns. Manganese oxide nanowires (MnO2 NWs) are prepared in situ with multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) and graphene oxide (GO) using a simple and effective hydrothermal method. Powder XRD, Raman and XPS analysis are utilized to examine the structural characteristics and chemical state of composites. The initial specific discharge capacity of pure MnO2 NWs, MnO2 NWs/MWCNT and MnO2 NWs/rGO composites are 1225, 1589 and 1685 mAh/g, respectively. The MnO2 NWs/MWCNT and MnO2 NWs/rGO composites showed stable behavior with a specific capacity of 957 and 1108 mAh/g, respectively, after 60 cycles. Moreover, MnO2 NWs/rGO composite sustained a specific capacity of 784 mAh/g, even after 250 cycles at a current density of 1 A/g showing outstanding cycling stability.
