This work examined the corrosion protection performance of benzoate loaded hydrotalcite/graphene oxide (HT/GO-BZ) for carbon steel. HT/GO-BZ was fabricated by the co-precipitation method and characterized by infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electronic microscopy. The corrosion inhibition action of HT/GO-BZ on carbon steel in 0.1 M NaCl solution was evaluated by electrochemical measurements. The benzoate content in HT/GO-BZ was determined by UV-Vis spectroscopy. Subsequently, the effect of HT/GO-BZ on the corrosion resistance of the water-based epoxy coating was investigated by the salt spray test. The obtained results demonstrated the intercalation of benzoate and GO in the hydrotalcite structure. The benzoate content in HT/GO-BZ was about 16%. The polarization curves of the carbon steel electrode revealed anodic corrosion inhibition activity of HT/GO-BZ and the inhibition efficiency was about 95.2% at a concentration of 3g/L. The GO present in HT/GO-BZ enhanced the inhibition effect of HT-BZ. The presence of HT/GO-BZ improved the corrosion resistance of the waterborne epoxy coating.
Firm Export and the Impact of Foreign Ownership in Vietnam: A Micro-Data Analysis

This paper investigates the impact of foreign ownership on firm exports in Vietnam and analyzes how export participation and export intensity vary with ownership status by comparing Foreign Direct Investment enterprises (FDI enterprises) versus domestic firms, and wholly-foreign-owned enterprises (WFs) versus foreign joint ventures (JVs). Using data from 2010-2015 Vietnamese enterprise survey (VES), we document that after controlling for firm characteristics, industry and region, FDI enterprises have higher export participation and higher export intensity than local firms. The finding supports the hypothesis that FDI enterprises inherit from foreign firm competitive advantages and therefore become superior in exports. We also find that while export participation is similar between JVs and WFs, export intensity is significantly higher for WFs than for JVs. This suggests that export-oriented foreign investors tend to establish 100% foreign-owned companies to exploit advantages of labor costs or natural resources, while domestic-oriented firms tend to form joint venture to penetrate the domestic market.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Sensitive and rapid diagnostic systems for avian influenza (AI) virus are required to screen large numbers of samples during a disease outbreak and to prevent the spread of infection. In this study, we employed a novel fluorescent dye for the rapid and sensitive recognition of AI virus. The styrylpyridine phosphor derivative was synthesized by adding allyl bromide as a stable linker and covalently immobilizing it on latex beads with antibodies generating the unique Red dye 53-based fluorescent probe. The performance of the innovative rapid fluorescent immnunochromatographic test (FICT) employing Red dye 53 in detecting the AI virus (A/H5N3) was 4-fold and 16-fold higher than that of Europium-based FICT and the rapid diagnostic test (RDT), respectively. In clinical studies, the presence of human nasopharyngeal specimens did not alter the performance of Red dye 53-linked FICT for the detection of H7N1 virus. Furthermore, in influenza A virus-infected human nasopharyngeal specimens, the sensitivity of the Red dye 53-based assay and RDT was 88.89% (8/9) and 55.56% (5/9) relative to rRT-PCR, respectively. The photostability of Red dye 53 was higher than that of fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), showing a stronger fluorescent signal persisting up to 8min under UV. The Red dye 53 could therefore be a potential probe for rapid fluorescent diagnostic systems that can recognize AI virus in clinical specimens.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
