2D Droplet Size and Velocity Analysis of a Fan-Shaped Spray Using Ilids Method

DI (direct injection) systems have been studied to improve thermal efficiency of gasoline engines. The analysis of spray behavior is important to examine the combustion characteristics of DI gasoline engines because fuel-air mixture formation is controlled by spray characteristics and gas motion. In this study, the characteristics of a fan-shaped spray, such as the droplet size, its velocity and the droplet-size distribution were simultaneously measured on a 2D plane by using an improved ILIDS (Interferometric Laser Imaging for Droplet Sizing) method. As a result, interesting relationships between the droplets diameter and the velocity were found. In addition, numerical analysis of a fan-shaped spray was conducted and the results were compared to the measured results. In numerical analysis, the nozzle internal flow was predicted by using VOF (Volume of Fluid) model that can simulate the two-phase flow inside the nozzle to give the liquid film formation process outside the nozzle. Using the results of VOF model for the initial conditions, numerical analysis of the spray by DDM (Discrete Droplet Model) was carried out to examine the droplets breakup process. As a result, SMD has become small with going away from the nozzle center section that is the same tendency as the experiment.

해양 심부 견인 전기비저항 탐사 방법이 새로이 개발되었다. 이 방법은 탄성파 반사법 탐사에서 잘 영상화 되지 않던 메탄 하이드레이트의 상부 경계를 찾아내기 위해 고안되었다. 이 장비는 하나의 송신기와 8개의 송신 전극들 및 한 개의 수신쌍극자를 갖는 160 m 연장의 긴 꼬리가 연구용 탐사선에 연결 되어 해저면 근처에서 끌리도록 만들어져 있다. 수치모형실험은 고안된 해양 전기비저항 탐사 방법이 메탄 하이드레이트 층의 상부를 효과적으로 잘 영상화함을 보여주었다. 실제 탐사는 메탄 하이드레이트가 노두로 관찰된 동해에 속해 있는 Joetsu의 먼바다에서 수행되었다. 대략 3.5 km에 달하는 탐사측선에 대하여 전기비저항 자료가 성공적으로 얻어 졌으며 상대적으로 높은 겉보기비저항 값들이 감지되었다. 특별히 메탄 하이드레이트가 들어나 있는 지역에서는 이상적으로 높은 겉보기비저항 값이 관측되었으며, 우리는 이 고겉보기비저항 값이 해저면 밑의 메탄 하이드레이트 지역에 의한 것으로 해석 하였다. 해양 전기비저항 탐사는 메탄 하이드레이트가 매장되어 있는 지역에서 해저면 하부를 잘 영상화 할 수 있는 새로운 도구가 될 것이다.
Characteristics and usefulness of transabdominal ultrasonography in immune-mediated colitis

Background/Aims: The usefulness of ultrasonography (US) in diseases of the gastrointestinal tract has been reported recently. This prospective study aimed to determine the features of US findings in immune-mediated colitis (IMC), an adverse event induced by immune checkpoint inhibitor, and examine the correlation between US findings, colonoscopy (CS) findings, and severity of colitis. Methods: We studied patients examined using CS and US upon suspicion of IMC in Hokkaido University Hospital between April 2018 and February 2021. Endoscopic findings of IMC were assessed using the Ulcerative Colitis Endoscopic Index of Severity (UCEIS). The severity of US findings in IMC was evaluated using US grade, which is the ultrasonographic grading scale in ulcerative colitis. Bowel wall thickness and the intensity of the color Doppler signal were also analyzed. Severity of colitis was evaluated using Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) grade version 5. Results: Fourteen patients with IMC were enrolled. The US findings were bowel wall thickening, loss of stratification, ulceration and increased blood flow signal. The US grade was moderately correlated with the UCEIS (r=0.687, P=0.009) and CTCAE grade (r=0.628, P=0.035). Bowel wall thickness and UCEIS (r=0.628, P=0.020), as well as color Doppler signal grade and CTCAE grade (r=0.724, P=0.008), were significantly correlated. Conclusions: US findings in IMC were mainly similar to those of ulcerative colitis, but there were some findings that were characteristic only of IMC. Significant correlation was found between US findings, CS findings, and severity of colitis. Hence, US could be useful for the evaluation of IMC.
