Amplitude, period and orientation of the moiré patterns in barrier 3D displays
Saveljev, Vladimir,Kim, Sung-Kyu The Korean Infomation Display Society 2018 Journal of information display Vol.19 No.2
The experimental measurements of the amplitude, period, and orientation of the $moir{\acute{e}}$ patterns in a digital autostereoscopic barrier-type 3D display are presented as functions of the angle across a wide angular range with a small increment. The slope and width of the functions are estimated. Simultaneous branches are observed and analyzed. The theoretical interpretation is based on the wavevectors and the transfer function. The results can help prevent or minimize the $moir{\acute{e}}$ effect in displays.
Image and Observer Regions in 3D Displays
Saveljev, Vladimir The Korean Infomation Display Society 2010 Journal of information display Vol.11 No.2
The relation between light sources and screen cells is considered part of the theoretical model of an autostereoscopic 3D display. The geometry of the image and observer regions is presented, including the cases of single and multiple regions. The characteristic function is introduced. Formulas for the geometric parameters are obtained, including areas and angles. Special attention is drawn to the screen location. The method of transforming the formulas between regions is stated. For multiple regions, geometric dissimilarity was found. This allows the model to be applied in finding the geometric characteristics of multiview and integral-imaging 3D displays.
Simulation and measurement of moir? patterns at finite distance.
Saveljev, Vladimir,Kim, Sung-Kyu Optical Society of America 2012 Optics express Vol.20 No.3
<P>The moir? effect was considered at a finite distance. Formulas for the wavenumber and phase of the visible moir? patterns were found with displacements of the observer and of gratings taken into account. The computer simulation and physical experiment confirm the theory. The method of measurement of the wavevectors of plane waves was proposed basing on the Radon and Fourier transformations.</P>
Analytical model of multiview autostereoscopic 3D display with a barrier or a lenticular plate
Saveljev, Vladimir,Palchikova, Irina The Korean Infomation Display Society 2018 Journal of information display Vol.19 No.2
A geometric model of an autostereoscopic 3D display is described herein. This model is based on the geometry of typical display devices and on the projective transformations that provide periodicity in the projective space. The formulas for the transformations between regions and spaces are provided. The model can be applied to the study of an operation of the multiview, integral, plenoptic, and light-field displays. A practical application considered in this paper is the multiview wavelet transform.
Three-dimensional interactive cursor based on voxel patterns for autostereoscopic displays
Saveljev Vladimir,Son Jung-Young,Yim Choonsik,Heo Gwanghee 한국정보디스플레이학회 2022 Journal of information display Vol.23 No.2
A three-dimensional (3D) cursor for autostereoscopic 3D displays was proposed. The cursor is based on voxel patterns. In the experiments, the cursor position is interactively controlled in 3D by a computer mouse with a scroll wheel. A computer program operates in the image plane of the 3D display directly without complicated geometric calculations. The results were verified in a 3D display with a parallax barrier and can be applied to other types of autostereoscopic displays.
Experimental observation of moir? angles in parallax barrier 3D displays.
Saveljev, Vladimir,Kim, Sung-Kyu Optical Society of America 2014 Optics express Vol.22 No.14
<P>Angles of visible moir? patterns are observed experimentally. Experiments were made across the angular range 0 - 90 in a wide range of parameters. Two kinds of clusterization were observed, ray and discrete. In rational cells (LCD pixels), the moir? patterns appear at a few fixed discrete angles. The list of preferable moir?-less angles is presented basing on the experimental data; preferable areas in the parameter space are found. The problem of minimization of the moir? effect is formulated as the Diophantine inequality with complex coefficients. The classification of moir? angles basing on the probability of the moir? effect can be practically useful.</P>
