Numerical Investigation of a Supercritical CO₂ Compressor

This study presents challenges associated with numerical investigation of CO₂ compressor working at supercritical condition (S-CO₂). The designing of compressor suitable for S-CO₂ as working fluid is technically challenging task compared to conventional compressors. In conventional compressors working fluid can be easily approximated to fully compressible, whereas in S-CO₂ compressors local incompressibility and non linear fluid properties are involved. In this study, 3-dimensional numerical simulations with CO2 as ideal gas and CO₂ as real gas are carried out. The comparison of results from these cases will lead to the significance of including nonlinear behavior associated with real gas effects.
