COVID-19 is an emerging disease that poses a severe threat to global public health. As such, there is an urgent demand for vaccines against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Here, we describe a virus-like nanoparticle candidate vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 produced by an E. coli expression system. The fusion protein of a truncated ORF2-encoded protein of aa 439~608 (p170) from hepatitis E virus CCJD-517 and the receptor-binding domain of the spike protein from SARSCoV-2 were expressed, purified and characterized. The antigenicity and immunogenicity of p170-RBD were evaluated in vitro and in Kunming mice. Our investigation revealed that p170-RBD selfassembled into approximately 24 nm virus-like particles, which could bind to serum from vaccinated people (p < 0.001) and receptors on cells. Immunization with p170-RBD induced the titer of IgG antibody vaccine increased from 14 days post-immunization and was significantly enhanced after a booster immunization at 28 dpi, ultimately reaching a peak level on 42 dpi with a titer of 4.97 log10. Pseudovirus neutralization tests showed that the candidate vaccine induced a strong neutralizing antibody response in mice. In this research, we demonstrated that p170-RBD possesses strong antigenicity and immunogenicity and could be a potential candidate for use in future SARS-CoV-2 vaccine development.

In our previous study, the anticancer effect of the active fucoidan (JHCF4) isolated from acid-processed Sargassum fusiformis was evaluated. In this study, the liver-protective effects of JHCF4 against ethanol-induced Chang liver cell damage and apoptosis-related responses were investigated. Furthermore, the low cytotoxicity and high cell viability of JHCF4 against ethanol-induced cell damage, as well as its protective effect against ethanol-induced cell apoptosis, were observed via nuclear staining with Hoechst 33342 in Chang liver cells. Additionally, the treatment of the 72 h post-fertilization (hpf) zebrafish model with JHCF4 increased the ethanol-stimulated survival rates as well as decreased oxidative stress, lipid peroxidation, and cell death levels. JHCF4 was found to significantly decrease steatosis production in the 128 hpf zebrafish model by Oil Red O staining, as well as attenuate the malondialdehyde and increase the glutathione contents, compared with the untreated group. These results demonstrate that JHCF4 has a potential hepato-protective effect against ethanol-induced damage both in vitro and in vivo.
Study on Occurrence of Titanium Element in Anatase Ores of Shazi, Qinglong, Guizhou Province

The tectonic position of anatase deposit in Shazi area, Qinglong, Guizhou Province is located at the transitional area between Yangtze Platform and the western part of South China orogenic belt. Three industrial ore bodies in this deposit are yielded above the limestone Karst unconformity of the Middle Permian Maokou Formation and at the bottom of Emeishan basalt. Genetic type of deposit is hot water -eluvium talus sedimentary which is related to the eruption of Emeishan basalt. Based on the analysis of chemistry, X-ray phase, electron probe and microscopic identification, etc., the data suggest that TiO2 in anatase ores are mainly present in the form of microgranular inclusions in silicate and quartz; secondly, Ti occurs as isomorphism in limonite; few are as independent minerals existing in the anatase with particle size greater than 0.04mm. According to the occurrence of Ti, it is determined that the anatase ores are extremely refractory, using conventional processing methods (heavy, magnetic, flotation) are not effective in enrichment anatase, but "roasting- acid leaching-alkaline leaching" beneficiation process works and obtain anatase with 42.32% TiO2. Extraction method can also enrich the associated element Sc, obtaining 99.99% scandium oxide products, and the leaching rate of Sc is 90%, which can produce iron oxide red and poly aluminum silicate salt (PSA) coagulant by-product. Mineral resources can be effectively developed and utilized without emission, which can obtain good environmental benefits.

The oxygen evolution kinetics of industrial copper electrodeposition is slow, resulting in low electrocatalytic activity and high energy consumption. In this work, a quaternary composite of carbon coated active particles containing Mn, Co and Ce were prepared (Mn-Co3O4/CeO2@C), and Ti/Sb-SnO2/PbO2 electrode doped with these active particles was prepared by co-electrodeposition. The microstructure and chemical composition of the electrode was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray diffractometry (XRD). Linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and Tafel polarization curve (Tafel) were used to study the electrochemical properties of anode materials. The results showed that the doping of Mn-Co3O4/CeO2@C active particles promoted the crystal transition of PbO2, decreased the average grain size, and the doping of Ce increases the average valence state of Co. The modified titanium electrode showed excellent catalytic activity of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) characteristics. The overpotential of the doped Ti/Sb-SnO2/PbO2 anode was only 453 mV when the current density was 20 mA cm−2 in 0.5 M H2SO4 solution, which is 508 mV lower than that of the undoped Ti/Sb-SnO2/PbO2 anode. In simulated copper electro-deposition experiments, the cell voltage was reduced by about 400 mV, compared to the undoped Ti/Sb-SnO2/PbO2 electrode.
State-Dependent Impulsive Control Strategies for a Tumor-Immune Model

<P>Controlling the number of tumor cells leads us to expect more efficient strategies for treatment of tumor. Towards this goal, a tumor-immune model with state-dependent impulsive treatments is established. This model may give an efficient treatment schedule to control tumor’s abnormal growth. By using the Poincaré map and analogue of Poincaré criterion, some conditions for the existence and stability of a positive order-1 periodic solution of this model are obtained. Moreover, we carry out numerical simulations to illustrate the feasibility of our main results and compare fixed-time impulsive treatment effects with state-dependent impulsive treatment effects. The results of our simulations say that, in determining optimal treatment timing, the model with state-dependent impulsive control is more efficient than that with fixed-time impulsive control.</P>

Pure and Nb-doped Pb(Zr1xTix)O3 (x ¼ 0.47, 0.48, 0.50) ceramics were prepared by conventional solidstate reaction technique. Dielectric anomalies are observed in both kinds of samples near room temperature. The anomalies could be depressed by donor doping and prefer to be significant in ceramics with tetragonal crystallographic phase. Phase transition mechanism and domain wall pinning effect are proposed to explain this anomaly, and the former is considered as the dominated reason. Further results of the pyroelectric measurements confirm the existence of the ferroelectriceferroelectric phase transition.
