This paper shows the computer simulation results of transient phenomena of the HVdc system, which uses forced commutation converter, when a fault occurs in it. Simulated faults are 3 line-to-ground (3LG) ac fault and dc line-to-line fault. The results of computer simulation of ac fault show that the large fault current flows through the switching devices, that is GTO's and diodes. The results of computer simulation of dc fault show that the fault current flowing through the diode is much larger than the GTO.
