The Software Architecture of A Secure and Efficient Group Key Agreement Protocol

Lopez-Benitez, Noe Convergence Society for SMB 2014 융합정보논문지 Vol.4 No.3

Group communications are becoming popular in Internet applications such as video conferences, on-line chatting programs, games, and gambling. Secure and efficient group communication is needed for message integration, confidentiality, and system usability. However, the conventional group key agreement protocols are too much focused on minimizing the computational overhead by concentrating on generating the common group key efficiently for secure communication. As a result, the common group key is generated efficiently but a failure in authentication allows adversaries to obtain valuable information during the group communication. After achieving the secure group communication, the secure group communication should generate the group key efficiently and distribute it to group members securely, so the balance of security and system usage must be considered at the same time. Therefore, this research proposes the software architecture model of a secure and efficient group communication that will be imbedded into networking applications.

      • Additional User Authentication on Group Communication

        Noe Lopez-Benitez,Sunghyuck Hong 중소기업융합학회 2015 중소기업융합학회 국제학술대회논문집 Vol.2 No.1

Group communications are becoming popular in Internet applications such as videoconferences, on-line chatting programs, games, and gambling. However, the conventional group key agreement protocols are focused on minimizing the computational overhead by concentrating on generating the common group key efficiently. As a result, the common group key is generated efficiently but a failure in authentication allows adversaries to obtain valuable information during the group communication. This paper proposes a Media Access Control (MAC)-based authentication in the group key agreement in order to secure the user authentication process in group communications. Without a preliminary agreement, participants in a group communication cannot trust each other in the beginning of the group setup. Therefore, the group controller, who is randomly selected from the group members, needs a security deposit from all members in case an illegitimate user tries to join the group. The user MAC address proposed in this paper can act as a security deposit to provide a secure communication channel while preventing the MAC spoofing problem.

Intermedia Synchronization Protocol for Continuous Media Using MPEG-4 in Mobile Distributed Systems

( Eduardo Lopez Dominguez ),( Saul E. Pomares Hernandez ),( Pilar Gomez Gil ),( Jorge De La Calleja ),( Antonio Benitez ),( Antonio Marin-hernandez ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2012 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.6 No.6

The preservation of temporal dependencies among a group of processes that exchange continuous media at runtime is a key issue for emerging mobile distributed systems (MDS), such as monitoring of biosignals and interactive multiuser games. Although several works are oriented to satisfy temporal dependencies, most of them are not suitable for MDSs. In general, an MDS is characterized by the absence of global references (e.g. shared memory and wall clock), host mobility, limited processing and storage capabilities in mobile hosts, and limited bandwidth on wireless communication channels. This paper proposes an asymmetric synchronization protocol to be used at runtime in an MDS without using a common reference. One main aspect of our synchronization protocol is that it translates temporal constraints to causal dependencies of the continuous media data as seen by the mobile hosts. We simulate the protocol by considering a cellular network environment and by using MPEG-4 encoders. The simulation results show that our protocol is effective in reducing the synchronization error. In addition, the protocol is efficient in terms of processing and storage costs at the mobile devices, as well as in the overhead attached per message across the wired and wireless channels.

      • Trends and Implications of Mobile and Online FinTech

        Sunghyuck Hong,Sanghee Park,Noe Lopez-Benitez ASCONS 2017 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF EMERGING MULTIDISCIPLINAR Vol.1 No.1

With the advent of the FinTech era, which is an IT technology-based financial service, the service has been transformed into a service emphasizing user-friendly convenience, and new and innovative services are always pouring out. However, due to the nature of FinTech, personal information, financial information, and physical information can be easily exposed, so countermeasures against security threats are essential. Even if we provide innovative services, if we can not provide reliable service and do not get customer’s trust, we will not only lose customers but also result in the decline of brand value. Therefore, this paper examines the security threats of the FinTech market, domestic and overseas industries, and proposes countermeasures to protect consumers from increasingly intelligent and organized security.

Mixed-phenotype acute leukemia: suboptimal treatment when the 2008/2016 WHO classification is used

        Alan Pomerantz,Sergio Rodriguez-Rodriguez,Roberta Demichelis-Gomez,Georgina Barrera-Lumbreras,Olga Barrales-Benitez,Xavier Lopez-Karpovitch,Alvaro Aguayo-Gonzalez 대한혈액학회 2016 Blood Research Vol.51 No.4

BackgroundDifferent criteria have been used to diagnose mixed-phenotype acute leukemia (MPAL), which has impacted the number of individuals diagnosed with this pathology. Better out-comes have been reported when using acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL)-type chemo-therapy in the treatment of MPAL.MethodsWe compared the outcome of 4 groups of patients with MPAL. Group 1 included patients diagnosed using the 2008/2016 World Health Organization (WHO) classification; group 2 included patients diagnosed using the European Group for the Immunological Characterization of Leukemias (EGIL) criteria; group 3 included patients diagnosed using either the EGIL or the 2008/2016 WHO criteria; and group 4 was comprised of patients diagnosed with MPAL using the EGIL classification only.ResultsWe found a significantly worse disease-free survival (groups 1‒4) and overall survival (OS) (groups 2 and 3) when comparing MPAL patients to other acute leukemia (AL) patients. A significantly better OS was obtained in patients (groups 2‒4) treated with ALL-type che-motherapy compared to acute myeloid leukemia (AML)-type regimens.ConclusionIn light of these results, and because a trend (P=0.06) was found with regard to a better OS in group 4 when compared to other AL patients, an argument can be made that the 2008/2016 WHO classification is underpowered to diagnose all MPAL cases, potentially resulting in the suboptimal treatment of some individuals with AL.
