Characterization Study of Zinc Sulphate’s Influence and Retarding Mechanism with Coarser and Finer Fly Ash Particles in Concrete

Loganathan Krishnaraj,Niranjan Ramesh,Rajendran Senthil Kumar,Prem Kumar George 대한토목학회 2020 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.24 No.9

Pozzolan, a modified cementitious material, has a major impact on the construction industry. Among the different composite materials, fly ash blended cement has great part due to its abundance. In recent years, the pulverized fly ash has become the key interest among the researchers because of its improved physical properties. This makes it necessary to study the effect of fly ash blends with various chemical admixtures. This study primarily focuses on bringing the changes happening in the strength, retarding mechanism, setting time, mineralogy, and microstructure caused by the addition of Zinc Sulphate (ZnSO4) in concrete having various percentages of raw fly ash (RFA) and ultrafine fly ash (UFFA). The result shows that ZnSO4 increases the setting time by more than 60%. Also, the study indicates decreased strength in concrete because of the reduced formation of hydrated products; this phenomenon is confirmed by scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis.

Assessment of Quality of Life and Functional Outcomes of Operated Cases of Hirschsprung Disease in a Developing Country

Loganathan, Arun Kumar,Mathew, Aleena Sara,Kurian, Jujju Jacob The Korean Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology 2021 Pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology & nutrition Vol.24 No.2

Purpose: Children treated for Hirschsprung disease (HD) are adversely affected by fecal incontinence and soiling. This can be detrimental to their physical, psychosocial quality of life (QoL) and impacts the normal functioning of their family. QoL studies in HD are predominantly from developed countries. We measured general quality of life, impact on family and functional bowel status using validated questionnaires in HD children in a developing country. Methods: Patients with HD, treated in a tertiary paediatric institution in India between 2010 and 2017, were identified. Patients and/or their proxy completed the Pediatric Quality of Life and Family Impact Module questionnaires. Functional outcomes were assessed using Rintala's score. Results: A 86 children and their parents participated in the study. Majority had rectosigmoid disease (67.4%) and underwent Soave's endoanal pull through (74.4%). A 21% of patients had low Rintala score indicating poor functional bowel outcomes. Only 11% of children had poor QoL scores. Family functioning outcomes were also severely affected in the same subgroup of patients. There was statistically significant correlation between Rintala score and QoL scores (p-value<0.001). Disease severity, type of surgery, and duration of follow-up did not have a statistically significant impact on the QoL. Conclusion: QoL in children with HD was comparable to the general population. Bowel dysfunction affects a notable number of children and was the most significant determinant of poor QoL.

Book review: State of Entrepreneurship Support through Incubators in India

Loganathan, Muralidharan Asian Society for Innovation and Policy 2021 Asian Journal of Innovation and Policy Vol.10 No.1

Entrepreneurial ecosystem is a very active area of research both conceptually and empirically, yet most literature that emerged over the last two decades predominantly pertain to developed economies. At the same time, transitioning and emerging economies have continued to grow rapidly, making a strong case to study entrepreneurial ecosystems in emerging economies (Bruton et al., 2018). Ecosystems are broad constructs and the constitutive elements of an ecosystem are themselves complex (Stam, 2015). Hence exploring key elements of the ecosystem in depth to understand the mechanisms of how entrepreneurship is supported through intermediary organizations like incubators is a fruitful exercise. In this context, we review the book "Technology Business Incubators in India Structure, Role and Performance" which is a timely synthesis for academic researchers and practitioners, looking to explore the topic as it pertains to emerging economies. The book is part of the De Gruyter Studies in Knowledge Management and Entrepreneurial Ecosystems series, that covers pertinent ecosystems issues around universities, and sustainability by leading authors.

Exploring MNC - Startup Symbiotic Relationship in an Entrepreneurial Ecosystem

Loganathan, Muralidharan Asian Society for Innovation and Policy 2018 Asian Journal of Innovation and Policy Vol.7 No.1

Multinational corporations (MNCs) leverage global locations for efficient production and sustained growth, and move significant foreign direct investments globally, particularly into emerging economies. MNCs also engage in entrepreneurial ecosystems of host countries for strategic benefits and impact the ecosystem as well. Of late, MNCs are increasingly entering into emerging economies like India through foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows and they are playing a vital role in start-up promotion in the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Therefore, we examine the role of MNCs and its impact on the entrepreneurial ecosystems in India by exploring a symbiotic relationship between MNCs and startups. We use a case-based method to ascertain and analyze specific benefits that emerge from such symbiotic relationships and draw implications for startups in India's technology entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Analysis of Surface Tracking of Micro and Nano Size Alumina Filled Silicone Rubber for High Voltage AC Transmission

Loganathan, N.,Chandrasekar, S. The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers 2013 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.8 No.2

This paper discusses the experimental results in an effort to understand the tracking and erosion resistance of the micro and nano size $Al_2O_3$ filled silicone rubber (SIR) material which has been studied under the AC voltages, with ammonium chloride as a contaminant, as per IEC 60587 test procedures. The characteristic changes in the tracking resistance of the micro and nano size filled specimens were analyzed through leakage current measurement and the eroded masses were used to evaluate the relative erosion and tracking resistance of the composites. The fundamental, third and fifth harmonic of the leakage current during the tracking study were analyzed using moving average current technique. It was observed that the harmonic components of leakage current show good correlation with the tracking and erosion resistance of the material. The thermogravimetry-derivative thermo gravimetric (TG-DTG) studies were performed to understand the thermal degradation of the composites. The physical and chemical studies were carried out by using scanning electron microscope (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX) and Fourier Transform Infra-red (FTIR) Spectroscopy. The obtained result indicated that the performance of nano filled SIR was better than the micro filled SIR material when the % wt. of filler increased.

EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES ON LOW PRESSURE SEMI-DIRECT FUEL INJECTION IN A TWO STROKE SPARK IGNITION ENGINE

M.LOGANATHAN,A.RAMESH 한국자동차공학회 2009 International journal of automotive technology Vol.10 No.2

In this work a two-stroke scooter engine was modified to work with semi direct injection of gasoline at a pressure of 8 bar from an injector in the cylinder barrel pointed toward the cylinder head. The influence of injection timing, injection pressure, spark plug location and air-fuel ratio, on performance, emissions and combustion characteristics has been investigated. In addition, a comparison has been made with manifold injection of gasoline on the same engine at a given speed and various outputs. A significant reduction in HC emissions and fuel consumption with no adverse effects on NOx emissions and combustion stability was observed. A small drop in power and increase in CO emission were observed disadvantages of the new injection system. Injection timing was found to be the most important factor and a balance between reduction in shortcircuited fuel by late injection, and time for mixture preparation by advancing the injection, was found to be essential. The Syntheses, Characterizations, and Photocatalytic Activities of Silver, Platinum, and Gold Doped TiO₂ Nanoparticles

        Kumaresan Loganathan,Palanisamy Bommusamy,Palanichamy Muthaiahpillai,Murugesan Velayutham 대한환경공학회 2011 Environmental Engineering Research Vol.16 No.2

Different weight percentages of Ag, Pt, and Au doped nano TiO₂ were synthesized using the acetic acid hydrolyzed sol-gel method. The crystallite phase, surface morphology combined with elemental composition and light absorption properties of the doped nano TiO₂ were comprehensively examined using X-ray diffraction (XRD), N2 sorption analysis, transmission electron microscopic (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray, and DRS UV-vis analysis. The doping of noble metals stabilized the anatase phase, without conversion to rutile phase. The formation of gold nano particles in Au doped nano TiO₂ was confirmed from the XRD patterns for gold. The specific surface area was found to be in the range 50 to 85 m2/g. TEM images confirmed the formation a hexagonal plate like morphology of nano TiO₂. The photocatalytic activity of doped nano TiO₂ was evaluated using 4-chlorophenol as the model pollutant. Au doped (0.5 wt %) nano TiO₂ was found to exhibit higher photocatalytic activity than the other noble metal doped nano TiO₂, pure nano TiO₂ and commercial TiO₂ (Degussa P-25). This enhanced photocatalytic activity was due to the cathodic influence of gold in suppressing the electron-hole recombination during the reaction.

RADIATION EFFECTS ON AN UNSTEADY NATURAL CONVECTIVE FLOW OF A NANOFLUID PAST AN INFINITE VERTICAL PLATE

        P. LOGANATHAN,P. NIRMAL CHAND,P. GANESAN 성균관대학교(자연과학캠퍼스) 성균나노과학기술원 2013 NANO Vol.8 No.1

An exact analysis is carried out to study the radiation effects on an unsteady natural convective flow of a nanofluid past an impulsively started infinite vertical plate. The nanofluids containing nanoparticles of aluminium oxide, copper, titanium oxide and silver with nanoparticle volume fraction range less than or equal to 0.04 are considered. The partial differential equations governing the flow are solved by Laplace transform technique. The influence of various parameters on velocity and temperature profiles, as well as Nusselt number and skin-friction coefficient, are examined and presented graphically. An increase in radiation parameter and time leads to fall in temperature of the fluid. The presence of nanoparticles and thermal radiation increases the rate of heat transfer and skin friction. The effect of heat transfer is found to be more pronounced in silver water nanofluid than in the other nanofluids. It is observed that the fluid velocity increases with an increase in Grashof number and time. Excellent validation of the present results is achieved with existing results in the literature.
