      • Influence of Intravenous Contrast Medium on Dose Calculation Using CT in Treatment Planning for Oesophageal Cancer

        Li, Hong-Sheng,Chen, Jin-Hu,Zhang, Wei,Shang, Dong-Ping,Li, Bao-Sheng,Sun, Tao,Lin, Xiu-Tong,Yin, Yong Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.3

Objective: To evaluate the effect of intravenous contrast on dose calculation in radiation treatment planning for oesophageal cancer. Methods: A total of 22 intravein-contrasted patients with oesophageal cancer were included. The Hounsfield unit (HU) value of the enhanced blood stream in thoracic great vessels and heart was overridden with 45 HU to simulate the non-contrast CT image, and 145 HU, 245 HU, 345 HU, and 445 HU to model the different contrast-enhanced scenarios. 1000 HU and -1000 HU were used to evaluate two non-physiologic extreme scenarios. Variation in dose distribution of the different scenarios was calculated to quantify the effect of contrast enhancement. Results: In the contrast-enhanced scenarios, the mean variation in dose for planning target volume (PTV) was less than 1.0%, and those for the total lung and spinal cord were less than 0.5%. When the HU value of the blood stream exceeded 245 the average variation exceeded 1.0% for the heart V40. In the non-physiologic extreme scenarios, the dose variation of PTV was less than 1.0%, while the dose calculations of the organs at risk were greater than 2.0%. Conclusions: The use of contrast agent does not significantly influence dose calculation of PTV, lung and spinal cord. However, it does have influence on dose accuracy for heart.

      • Evaluation of the Geometric Accuracy of Anatomic Landmarks as Surrogates for Intrapulmonary Tumors in Image-guided Radiotherapy

        Li, Hong-Sheng,Kong, Ling-Ling,Zhang, Jian,Li, Bao-Sheng,Chen, Jin-Hu,Zhu, Jian,Liu, Tong-Hai,Yin, Yong Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.5

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the geometric accuracy of thoracic anatomic landmarks as target surrogates of intrapulmonary tumors for manual rigid registration during image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT). Methods: Kilovolt cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images acquired during IGRT for 29 lung cancer patients with 33 tumors, including 16 central and 17 peripheral lesions, were analyzed. We selected the "vertebrae", "carina", and "large bronchi" as the candidate surrogates for central targets, and the "vertebrae", "carina", and "ribs" as the candidate surrogates for peripheral lesions. Three to six pairs of small identifiable markers were noted in the tumors for the planning CT and Day 1 CBCT. The accuracy of the candidate surrogates was evaluated by comparing the distances of the corresponding markers after manual rigid matching based on the "tumor" and a particular surrogate. Differences between the surrogates were assessed using 1-way analysis of variance and post hoc least-significant-difference tests. Results: For central targets, the residual errors increased in the following ascending order: "tumor", "bronchi", "carina", and "vertebrae"; there was a significant difference between "tumor" and "vertebrae" (p = 0.010). For peripheral diseases, the residual errors increased in the following ascending order: "tumor", "rib", "vertebrae", and "carina"; There was a significant difference between "tumor" and "carina" (p = 0.005). Conclusions: The "bronchi" and "carina" are the optimal surrogates for central lung targets, while "rib" and "vertebrae" are the optimal surrogates for peripheral lung targets for manual matching of online and planned tumors.

Monosaccharide as a Central Scaffold Toward the Construction of Salicylate-Based Bidentate PTP1B Inhibitors via Click Chemistry

        Yan-Hui Tang,Min Hu,Xiao-Peng He,Sando Fahnbulleh,Cui Li,Li-Xin Gao,Li Sheng,Yun Tang,Jia Li,Guo-Rong Chen 대한화학회 2011 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.32 No.3

The discovery of carbohydrate-based bioactive compounds has recently received considerable interest in the drug development. This paper stresses on the application of 1-methoxy-O-glucoside as the central scaffold, whereas salicylic pharmacophores were introduced with diverse spatial orientations probing into the structural preference of an enzymatic target, i.e. protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B). By employing regioselective protection and deprotection strategy, 2,6-, 3,4-, 4,6- and 2,3-di-O-propynyl 1-methoxy-O-glucosides were previously synthesized and then coupled with azido salicylate via click chemistry in forming the desired bidentate salicylic glucosides with high yields. The inhibitory assay of the obtained triazolyl derivatives leads to the identification of the 2,3-disubstituted salicylic 1-methoxy-O-glucoside as the structurally privileged PTP1B inhibitor among this bidentate compound series with micromole-ranged IC50 value and reasonable selectivity over other homologous PTPs tested. In addition, docking simulation was conducted to propose a plausible binding mode of this authorized inhibitor with PTP1B. This research might furnish new insight toward the construction of structurally different bioactive compounds based on the monosaccharide scaffold.

Comparative effectiveness of Chinese herbal injections treating for rotavirus enteritis in children: A systematic review and Bayesian network meta-analysis

        Li-Qing Niu,Lu Xiao,Qiu-Han Cai,Yu-Yi Wu,Si-Yuan Hu,Sheng-Xuan Guo,Yu-Ling Tian,Qiu-Rong Wang 한국한의학연구원 2023 Integrative Medicine Research Vol.12 No.2

Background: Rotavirus enteritis (RVE) accounts for 37% of all death in children (<5 years) with diarrhea. Chinese herbal injections (CHIs) have drawn more attention from practitioners because of the valid effects for RVE. However, the most beneficial one has not yet been determined. Methods: Eight databases were searched from their inception up to September 3, 2022. The primary outcome was clinical effective rate and the secondary outcomes were time for disappearance of diarrhea, time of defervescence, time for disappearance of vomiting, and adverse drug reactions or adverse drug events. OpenBUGS 3.2.3 and STATA 14.0 software were employed to carry out the NMA. Results: 58 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with 6436 child patients were included in this Bayesian NMA. Four CHIs were investigated including Yanhuning injection (YHN), Xiyanping injection (XYP), Reduning injection (RDN), and Zedoary Turmeric Oil injection (ZTO). The results showed that YHN [OR=6.16, 95% CI (4.39, 8.77)] had a superior effect in improving clinical effective rate compared to Ribavirin based on Western medicine (WM). According to SUCRA values, YHN (84.1%) ranked highest. As for the secondary outcomes, XYP was the better intervention in shortening the time for disappearance of diarrhea. Regarding time for defervescence, RDN had obvious advantages and also performed well in time for disappearance of vomiting. Conclusions: CHIs combined with WM could be beneficial than Ribavirin in improving clinical effective rate, and YHN was the optimum treatment. From the comprehensive evaluations of both the clinical effective rate and other outcomes, YHN also indicated a favorable therapeutic effect in RVE. Study registration: This study was registered on PROSPERO (CRD42022357149).

The microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of ammonium polyphosphate/ aluminium hydroxide/ mica during thermal reaction

        Sheng HU,Fei Chen,Jun-Guo Li,Qiang Shen,Zhi-Xiong Huang,Lian-Meng Zhang 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2016 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.17 No.8

The phase and microstructure evolution of ammonium polyphosphate/ aluminium hydroxide/ mica compounds (AAM) duringthermal reaction are investigated. At 300 oC, AAM residues exhibit porous structure due to gas evolution from the thermaldecomposition of ammonium polyphosphate (APP) and aluminium hydroxide, but mica does not react with them, and theflexural strength of specimens can reach 11.56 MPa. The thermal decomposition products of APP react with AlOOH toNH4AlP2O7, which can improve the flexural strength during 300 ~ 400 oC. The reactivity of mica is increased by eliminatinghydroxyl at temperature up to 600 oC, and the flexural strength of AAM residues is improved furtherly by the chemicallyinteractions between active mica and phosphates during 600 ~ 1000 oC. And specifically at 1000 oC, the AAM residues exhibitrelatively high flexural strength, which can reach 26.85 MPa and reactions between mica and KAlP2O7 could generateKAlSi3O8 and 3Al2O3·2SiO2. AAM with high flexural strength from low to high temperatures is expected to be a kind ofexcellent inorganic additive of ceramifiable polymer with wide temperature range for using.

Calculation of thermal neutron scattering data of MgF2 and its effect on beam shaping assembly for BNCT

        Hu Jiaqi,Qiao Zhaopeng,Fan Lunhe,Tang Yongqiang,Cao Liangzhi,Zu Tiejun,He Qingming,Li Zhifeng,Wang Sheng 한국원자력학회 2023 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.55 No.4

MgF2 as a moderator material has been extensively used in the beam shaping assembly (BSA) that plays an important role in the boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT). Regarded as important for applications, the thermal neutron scattering data of MgF2 were calculated, based on the phonon expansion model. The structural properties of MgF2 were researched by the VASP code based on the ab-initio methods. The PHONOPY code was employed to calculate the phonon density of states. Furthermore, the NJOY code was used to calculate the thermal neutron scattering data of MgF2. The calculated inelastic cross sections plus absorption cross sections are in agreement with the available experimental data. The neutron transport in the BSA has been simulated by using a hybrid Monte-Carlo-Deterministic code NECP-MCX. The results indicated that compared with the calculation of the free gas model, the thermal neutron flux and epithermal neutron flux at the BSA exit port calculated by using the thermal neutron scattering data of MgF2 were reduced by 27.7% and 8.2%, respectively.

      • Calpain-10 SNP43 and SNP19 Polymorphisms and Colorectal Cancer: a Matched Case-control Study

        Hu, Xiao-Qin,Yuan, Ping,Luan, Rong-Sheng,Li, Xiao-Ling,Liu, Wen-Hui,Feng, Fei,Yan, Jin,Yang, Yan-Fang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.11

Objective: Insulin resistance (IR) is an established risk factor for colorectal cancer (CRC). Given that CRC and IR physiologically overlap and the calpain-10 gene (CAPN10) is a candidate for IR, we explored the association between CAPN10 and CRC risk. Methods: Blood samples of 400 case-control pairs were genotyped, and the lifestyle and dietary habits of these pairs were recorded and collected. Unconditional logistic regression (LR) was used to assess the effects of CAPN10 SNP43 and SNP19, and environmental factors. Both generalized multifactor dimensionality reduction (GMDR) and the classification and regression tree (CART) were used to test gene-environment interactions for CRC risk. Results: The GA+AA genotype of SNP43 and the Del/Ins+Ins/Ins genotype of SNP19 were marginally related to CRC risk (GA+AA: OR = 1.35, 95% CI = 0.92-1.99; Del/Ins+Ins/Ins: OR = 1.31, 95% CI = 0.84-2.04). Notably, a high-order interaction was consistently identified by GMDR and CART analyses. In GMDR, the four-factor interaction model of SNP43, SNP19, red meat consumption, and smoked meat consumption was the best model, with a maximum cross-validation consistency of 10/10 and testing balance accuracy of 0.61 (P < 0.01). In LR, subjects with high red and smoked meat consumption and two risk genotypes had a 6.17-fold CRC risk (95% CI = 2.44-15.6) relative to that of subjects with low red and smoked meat consumption and null risk genotypes. In CART, individuals with high smoked and red meat consumption, SNP19 Del/Ins+Ins/Ins, and SNP43 GA+AA had higher CRC risk (OR = 4.56, 95%CI = 1.94-10.75) than those with low smoked and red meat consumption. Conclusions: Though the single loci of CAPN10 SNP43 and SNP19 are not enough to significantly increase the CRC susceptibility, the combination of SNP43, SNP19, red meat consumption, and smoked meat consumption is associated with elevated risk.
