Quantum Duplex Coding for Classical Information on IBM Quantum Devices

Quantum duplex coding (QDC) allows the simultaneous two-way transmission of information between two communicating parties (Alice and Bob). We implement the QDC protocol on the IBM quantum device using QISkit and compare its performance with the ideal case. Our results indicate that while the noiseless case allows the simultaneous transmission of 1 bits/EPR in both directions, the noise in the IBM quantum devices limits the communication rate to 0.81 (0.75) bits/EPR from Alice (Bob) to Bob (Alice). We model this nonideal behavior of quantum gates on IBMquantum devices as ideal gates followed by the application of quantum noise to simulate QDC classically.
