The environmental effects of China's nuclear energy consumption in a dynamic framework of the pollution haven hypothesis are examined. This study uses a dynamic autoregressive distributed lag simulation approach. Empirical evidence confirms that the pollution haven hypothesis does not exist for China; i.e., foreign direct investment plays a promising role in influencing environmental outcomes. Furthermore, empirical results concluded positive contribution of nuclear energy in pollution mitigation. From the results it is expected that encouraging foreign investment to increase generation of nuclear energy would benefit environmental quality by reducing CO<sub>2</sub> emissions.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Continuous dumping of oyster shells in open fields has been a global issue, causing serious problems in the water and human health. The conversion of those wastes into value-added products is highly desirable. Here, Green Calcium Hydroxide Nano-plates (GCHNPs) were first synthesized from waste oyster shells by a chemical precipitation method in an aqueous medium at 90 °C without using any additives. The crystal structure with a hexagonal portlandite (Ca(OH)<SUB>2</SUB>) was observed by both X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The crystal size of around 350–450 nm and specific surface area with 4.96 m<SUP>2</SUP>g<SUP>-1</SUP> were confirmed by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), respectively. Consequences and Remediation of Climate change with Focus on Clean Water and Sanitation in India

The emission of greenhouse gases mainly carbon dioxide and methane is the result of rapid industrialization to meet the demands of ever-growing population. This has resulted in an increase of global temperature which in turn is responsible for severe environmental, social, ecological and economic losses, commonly known as to as 'climate change'. This study attempts to highlight the impacts of climate change mainly focussing on water contamination, sanitation and open defecation in India. The requirement for the instantaneous employment of environment friendly technologies along with improved sanitary system has been discussed. Various other issues which are also linked to climate change that need further management like managing water resources, deterioration in human health, economic losses, modification and successful implementation of policies have been pointed out. Furthermore, stress has been made for the urgent adaptation and rethinking for making strategies along with the involvement of women in order to cop up challenges offered by climate change.
Single shot laser speckle based 3D acquisition system for medical applications

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The state of the art techniques used by medical practitioners to extract the three-dimensional (3D) geometry of different body parts requires a series of images/frames such as laser line profiling or structured light scanning. Movement of the patients during scanning process often leads to inaccurate measurements due to sequential image acquisition. Single shot structured techniques are robust to motion but the prevalent challenges in single shot structured light methods are the low density and algorithm complexity. In this research, a single shot 3D measurement system is presented that extracts the 3D point cloud of human skin by projecting a laser speckle pattern using a single pair of images captured by two synchronized cameras. In contrast to conventional laser speckle 3D measurement systems that realize stereo correspondence by digital correlation of projected speckle patterns, the proposed system employs KLT tracking method to locate the corresponding points. The 3D point cloud contains no outliers and sufficient quality of 3D reconstruction is achieved. The 3D shape acquisition of human body parts validates the potential application of the proposed system in the medical industry.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> A single shot 3D acquisition system based on stereophotogrammetry and laser speckle projection is presented for anthropometric measurements. </LI> <LI> The stereo correspondence is established by tracking the feature points using KLT feature tracker instead of laser speckle correlation. </LI> <LI> The acquisition of the 3D point clouds by the proposed system contains no outliers and the number of 3D points is sufficient to create the 3D mesh of the measuring part. </LI> <LI> Experiments are performed to estimate the measurement accuracy of the system. </LI> </UL> </P>
Ion Exchange Processes: A Potential Approach for the Removal of Natural Organic Matter from Water

Natural organic matter (NOM) is among the most common pollutant in underground and surface waters. It comprises of humic substances which contains anionic macromolecules such as aliphatic and aromatic compounds of a wide range of molecular weights along with carboxylic, phenolic functional groups. Although the concentration of NOM in potable water usually lies in the range of 1-10 ppm. Conventional treatment technologies are facing challenge in removing NOM effectively. The main issues are concentrated to low efficiency, membrane fouling, and harmful by-product formation. Ion-exchangers can be considered as an efficient and economic pretreatment technology for the removal of NOM. It not only consumes less time for pretreatment but also resist formation of trihalomethanes (THMs), an unwanted harmful by-product. This article provides a comprehensive review of ion exchange processes for the removal of NOM.

This empirical research is aimed at testing the relationship of the big five personality traits namely openness to experience, extraversion, consciousness, agreeableness, neuroticism, and risk aversion with the investment intention of individual investors belonging to Balochistan, Pakistan. The primary data is collected through a self-administered questionnaire (a structured form that consists of a series of closed-ended and open-ended questions) from a sample of 397 active individual investors belonging to different districts of the province. The data is empirically analyzed by applying the Partial Least Square (PLS) path modeling technique by using the estimation package available in Smart-PLS. The findings of this study suggest that all the variables are statistically significant with investors' investment intention with risk aversion as the strongest predictor. Moreover, openness to experience, extraversion, consciousness, agreeableness, and risk are significantly and positively related to an investor's investment intention, whereas neuroticism is negatively related to an investor's investment intention. The results extended by this study can be used by financial planners and investment bankers to channelize the available financial resources in diversified portfolios. The results will help financial planners to make available diverse investment alternatives for investors in Balochistan, thus catering to their unique needs. Academia must offer courses on contemporary finance paradigm based on behavioral finance to enable future business graduates to make wise financial decisions.
