        A Sampled-data Approach to Robust H∞ State Estimation for Genetic Regulatory Networks with Random Delays

        This paper is concerned with the robust H¥ state estimation problem for a class of uncertain genetic regulatory networks (GRNs) with random delays and external disturbances by using sample-data method. An important feature of this paper is that the time-varying delays are assumed to be random and their probability distributions are known a priori. By substituting the continuous measurements, the sampled measurements are used to estimate the concentrations of mRNAs and proteins. On the basis of the extended Wirtinger inequality, a discontinuous Lyapunov functional is introduced. Then, some sufficient conditions are derived in terms of a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), which ensure that the error system is globally asymptotically stable in the meansquare sense and satisfies H∞ performance. Further, the explicit expression of the required estimator gain matrices is proposed. Finally, a numerical example is used to illustrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the obtained estimation method.

        Extraction, Molecular Weight Distribution, and Antioxidant Activity of Oligosaccharides from Longan (Dimocarpus Longan Lour.) Pulp

        Ultrasonic-microwave synergistic extraction (UMSE) was optimized for the extraction of oligosaccharides from longan pulp (OLP). Box-Behnken design was used to evaluate the effects of temperature (35-55oC), ultrasonic time (5-25 min), and water to material ratio (10-30 mL/g) on the extraction efficiency of crude OLP. A regression model was developed and its validity was statistically demonstrated. Significant interaction between temperature and water to material ratio was observed. The following optimal conditions for the extraction yield of crude OLP were determined: extraction temperature 55oC, ultrasonic time 18.52 min, and water to material ratio 10 mL/g. The extracted OLP were purified for the determination of molecular weight distribution and antioxidant activity. Results of matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry revealed that the molecular weight distribution of the purified OLP ranged from m/z 495.138 to 795.511. The purified OLP exhibited a dose-dependent behavior in 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging activity.

        Expression of Arabidopsis HOMEODOMAIN GLABROUS 11 Enhances Tolerance to Drought Stress in Transgenic Sweet Potato Plants

        Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L. cv. Lizixiang)is a nutritious arable crop with a low drought tolerance during growth and maturation. The Arabidopsis HOMEODOMAIN GLABROUS 11 (HDG11) gene can increase drought tolerance in tobacco and tall fescue plants. To determine the effect of HDG11 in the sweet potato, transgenic plants that expressed the HDG11 gene were generated by Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. Expression of the transgene was confirmed using Southern blotting, reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and DNA sequencing. Two independent HDG11 transgenic lines were evaluated and increased drought stress tolerance was observed in both lines, compared to wild-type (WT) plants. Under drought stress conditions, net photosynthesis rate (Pn), the efficiency of excitation energy captured by open PSII reaction centers (Fv/Fm) and water use efficiency (WUE) increased, and transpiration rate (Tr) decreased in HDG11 transgenic plants compared to WT. HDG11 transgenic plants also had decreased lipid membrane oxidative damage, reduced H2O2 accumulation and increased ROSscavenging enzyme activity during drought stress treatment. This study indicates that overexpression of the Arabidopsis HDG11 gene improved drought tolerance in the sweet potato.
