Frequency Tuning Characteristics of a THz-wave Parametric Oscillator
Zhongyang Li,Pibin Bing,Degang Xu,Jianquan Yao 한국광학회 2013 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.17 No.1
Frequency tuning characteristics of a THz-wave by varying phase-matching angle and pump wavelength in a noncollinear phase-matching THz-wave parametric oscillator (TPO) are analyzed. A novel scheme to realize the tuning of a THz-wave by moving the cavity mirror forwards and backwards is proposed in a noncollinear phase-matching TPO. The parametric gain coefficients of the THz-wave in a LiNbO3crystal are explored under different working temperatures. The relationship between the poling period of periodically poled LiNbO3 (PPLN) and the THz-wave frequency under the condition of a quasi-phasematching configuration is deduced. Such analyses have an impact on the experiments of the TPO.

The characteristics of a photonic crystal fiber sensor with reuleaux triangle are studied by using the finite element method. The wavelength sensitivity of the designed optical fiber sensor is related to the arc radius of the reuleaux triangle. Whether the core area is solid or liquid as well as the refractive index of the liquid core contributes to wavelength sensitivity. The simulation results show that larger arc radius leads to higher sensitivity. The sensitivity can be improved by introducing a liquid core, and higher wavelength sensitivity can be achieved with a lower refractive index liquid core. In addition, the specific channel plated with gold film is polished and then analyte is deposited on the film surface, in which case the position of the resonance peak is the same as that of the complete photonic crystal fiber with three analyte channels being filled with analyte. This means that filling process becomes convenient with equivalent performance of designed sensor. The maximum wavelength sensitivity of the sensor is 10200 nm/RIU and the resolution is 9.8 × 10 -6 RIU.

Terahertz (THz) generation by a GaP ridge waveguide with a collinear modal phase-matching schemebased on cascaded difference frequency generation (DFG) processes is theoretically analyzed. The cascadedStokes interaction processes and the cascaded anti-Stokes interaction processes are investigated fromcoupled wave equations. THz intensities and quantum conversion efficiency are calculated. Compared withnon-cascaded DFG processes, THz intensities from 11-order cascaded DFG processes are increased to 5.48. The quantum conversion efficiency of 177.9% in cascaded processes can be realized, exceeding theManley-Rowe limit.

Zhongyang Li,Mengtao Wang,Silei Wang,Bin Yuan,Pibin Bing,Degang Xu,Jianquan Yao 한국광학회 2018 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.2 No.1
Stimulated polariton scattering from the B₁-symmetry modes of a KNbO₃ crystal to generate a terahertz wave (THz-wave) with a noncollinear phase-matching scheme is investigated. The frequency-tuning characteristics of the THz-wave by varying the phase-matching angle and pump wavelength are analyzed. The expression for the effective parametric gain length under the noncollinear phase-matching condition is deduced. Parametric gain and absorption characteristics of the THz-wave in KNbO₃ are theoretically simulated. The characteristics of KNbO₃ for a terahertz parametric oscillator (TPO) are compared to those of MgO:LiNbO₃. The analysis indicates that KNbO₃ is an excellent optical crystal for a TPO, to enhance the THz-wave output.

Terahertz (THz) wave generation from bulk and periodically poled LiTaO3 (PPLT) with a Cherenkovphase matching scheme is numerically investigated. It is shown that by using the crystal birefringenceof bulk LiTaO3 and a grating vector of PPLT, THz waves can be efficiently generated by differencefrequency generation (DFG) with a Cherenkov phase matching scheme. The frequency tuning characteristicsof the THz wave via varying wavelength of difference frequency waves, phase matching angle, polingperiod of PPLT and working temperature are theoretically analyzed. The parametric gain coefficient inthe low-loss limit and the absorption coefficient of the THz wave during the DFG process in the vicinityof polariton resonances are numerically analyzed. A THz wave can be efficiently generated by utilizingthe giant second order nonlinearities of LiTaO3 in the vicinity of polariton resonances
A Novel Photonic Crystal Fiber Sensor with Three D-shaped Holes Based on Surface Plasmon Resonance
Pibin Bing,Jialei Sui,Shichao Huang,Xinyue Guo,Zhongyang Li,Lian Tan,Jianquan Yao 한국광학회 2019 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.3 No.6
A novel photonic crystal fiber (PCF) sensor with three D-shaped holes based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) is analyzed in this paper. Three D-shaped holes are filled with the analyte, and the gold film is deposited on the side of three planes. The design of D-shaped holes with outward expansion can effectively solve the uniformity problem of metallized nano-coating, it is beneficial to the filling of the analyte and is convenient for real-time measurement of the analyte. Compared with the hexagonal lattice structure, the triangular arrangement of the clad air holes can significantly reduce the transmission loss of light and improve the sensitivity of the sensor. The influences of the air hole diameter, the distance between D-shaped holes and core, and the counterclockwise rotation angle of D-shaped holes on sensing performance are studied. The simulation results show that the wavelength sensitivity of the designed sensor can be as high as 10100 nm/RIU and the resolution can reach 9.9 × 10 -6 RIU.

We present a theoretical research concerning terahertz (THz) wave generation with KTiOPO 4 (KTP) by collinear phase matching (CPM) stimulated polariton scattering (SPS). Both CPM and corresponding nonzero nonlinear coefficients can be simultaneously realized with s→f+f in yz plane, s→f+s with θ < Ω in xz plane and s→f+f with θ > Ω in xz plane. The effective nonlinear coefficients including electronic nonlinearities and ionic nonlinearities are calculated. Based on the parameter values of refractive indices, absorption coefficients and effective nonlinear coefficients, we simulate THz wave intensities generated with CPM SPS by solving coupled wave equations and give the relationship among the maximum THz wave intensity, optimal crystal length and the angle θ. The calculation results demonstrate that CPM SPS with KTP can generate THz waves with high intensities and quantum conversion efficiencies.
Thermo-optic Characteristics of Micro-structured Optical Fiber Infiltrated with Mixture Liquids
Ran Wang,Yuye Wang,Yinping Miao,Ying Lu,Nannan Luan,Congjing Hao,Liangcheng Duan,Cai Yuan,Jianquan Yao 한국광학회 2013 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.17 No.3
We present both theoretically and experimentally the thermo-optic characteristics of micro-structured optical fiber (MOF) filled with mixed liquid. The performance of MOF depends on the efficient interaction between the fundamental mode of the transmitted light wave and the tunable thermo-optic materials in the cladding. The numerical simulation indicates that the confinement loss of MOF presents higher temperature dependence with higher air-filling ratios d/Λ, longer incident wavelength and fewer air holes in the cladding. For the 4cm liquid-filled grapefruit MOF, we demonstrate from experiments that different proportions of solutions lead to tunable temperature sensitive ranges. The insertion loss and the extinction ratio are 3~4 dB and approximate 20 dB, respectively. The proposed liquid-filling MOF will be developed as thermo-optic sensor, attenuator or optical switch with the advantages of simple structure, compact configuration and easy fabrication.
