2-Mercaptobenzothiazole was used as a highly selective and efficient carrier for the uphill transport of silver ion through a chloroform bulk liquid membrane. In the presence of thiosulfate ion as a suitable metal ion acceptor in the receiving phase, the amount of silver transported across the liquid membrane after 180 min was 90 ± 3.0%. The selectivity and efficiency of silver ion transported from aqueous solutions containing equimolar mixtures of $Zn^{2+}, Cu^{2+}, Co^{2+}, Ni^{2+}, Cd^{2+}, Pb^{2+}, Bi^{3+}, Fe^{2+}, Fe^{3+}, Pd^{2+}, Mn^{2+}, Hg^{2+}, Sn^{2+}, Ca^{2+}, Mg^{2+}, K^+, Na^+ and Li^+$ were investigated.

The proposed research describes the synthesis and characterization of platinum nanoparticles loaded on activated carbon (Pt-NP-AC) and its efficient application as novel adsorbent for efficient removal of reactive orange 12 (RO-12). The influences of effective parameters following the optimization of variables on removal percentages, their value was set as 0.015 g Pt-NP-AC, pH 1, contact time of 13 min. At optimum values of all variables at 25 and 50 mgL−1 of RO-12 enthalpy (ΔH0) and entropy (ΔS0) changes was found to be 59.89 and 225.076, respectively, which negative value of ΔG0 shows a spontaneous nature, and the positive values of ΔH0 and ΔS0 indicate the endothermic nature and adsorption organized of dye molecule on the adsorbent surface. Experimental data was fitted to different kinetic models including first-order, pseudo-second-order, Elovich and intra-particle diffusion models, and it was seen that the adsorption process follows pseudo-second-order model in consideration to intra-particle diffusion mechanism. At optimum values of all variables, the adsorption process follows the second-order kinetic and Langmuir isotherm model with adsorption capacity 285.143 mg g−1 at room temperature.

Copper(II) ion-selective PVC membrane electrode based on 2-mercaptobenzoxazole as a new ionophore and o-nitrophenyl octyl ether (o-NPOE) as plasticizer is proposed. This electrode revealed good selectivity for Cu2+ over a wide variety of other metal ions. Effects of experimental parameters such as membrane composition, nature and amount of plasticizer, and concentration of internal solution on the potential response of Cu2+ sensor were investigated. The electrode exhibits good response for Cu2+ in a wide linear range of 5.0 ´106-1.6 ´ 102 mol/L with a slope of 29.2 ± 2.0 mV/decade. The response time of the sensor is less than 10 s, and the detection limit is 2.0 ´106 mol/L. The electrode response was stable in pH range of 4-6. The lifetime of the electrode was about 2 months. The electrode revealed comparatively good selectivities with respect to many alkali, alkaline earth, and transition metal ions.
