<P>The residual surfactant organic molecules on electrocatalysts are expected to enhance the tolerance to specific anion adsorption, whereas the surfactants have been generally regarded as contaminants that block active surfaces. In this study, the Pt nanoparticles with adsorbed surfactants were prepared, and their electrochemical characteristics at various phosphoric acid concentrations were studied by the half-cell test. <P>The thermal annealing process is a common treatment used after the preparation step to enhance the electrocatalytic properties of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). The structure of a Pt-based bimetallic nanoparticle, which is significantly affected by the catalytic properties, is reconstructed by thermal energy. We investigated the effect of structural reconstruction induced by thermal annealing on the improvement of the ORR using various physical and electrochemical methods. We found that the structural evolution of PtNi nanoparticles, i.e., the Pt–Ni ordering with the Pt shell and the surface reorientation into the (111) facet, is the source of the enhanced ORR activity as well as electrochemical stability through the thermal annealing. Background/Aims: Cholangiocarcinoma frequently recurs even after curative resection. Expression levels of proteins such as epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), Snail, epithelial cadherin (E-cadherin), and interleukin-6 (IL-6) examined by immunohistochemistry have been studied as potential prognostic factors for cholangiocarcinoma. The aim of this study was to investigate significant factors affecting the prognosis of resectable cholangiocarcinoma. Methods: Ninety-one patients who underwent surgical resection at Samsung Medical Center for cholangiocarcinoma from 1995 to 2013 were included in this study. Expression levels of E-cadherin, Snail, IL-6, membranous EGFR, and cytoplasmic EGFR were analyzed by immunohistochemistry using tissue microarray blocks made from surgical specimens. Results: Patients with high levels of membranous EGFR in tissue microarrays had significantly shorter overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS): high membranous EGFR (score 0–2) 38.0 months versus low membranous EGFR (score 3) 14.4 months (p=0.008) and high membranous EGFR (score 0–2) 23.2 months versus low membranous EGFR (score 3) 6.1 months (p=0.004), respectively. On the other hand, E-cadherin, Snail, cytoplasmic EGFR, and IL-6 did not show significant association with OS or DFS. Patients with distant metastasis had significantly higher IL-6 levels than those with locoregional recurrence (p=0.01). Conclusions: This study showed that overexpression of membranous EGFR was significantly associated with shorter OS and DFS in surgically resected bile duct cancer patients. In addition, higher IL-6 expression was a predictive marker for recurrence in cholangiocarcinoma patients with distant organ metastasis after surgical resection.

Lanthanide-transition heterobimetallic complex {(DMF)_(10)Tm_(2)[Pd(CN)_(4)]_(3)}_(∞). was prepared in metathesis reaction of 2:3 molar ratio of TmCl_(3) with K_(2)Pd(CN)_(4) in DMF at room temperature. Single-crystal X-ray analysis shows the structure of the complex has the general formula {(DMF)_(10)Tm_(2)[Pd(CN)_(4)]_(3)}_(∞) with one dimensional array. The repeating unit of the complex is translated only along the crystallographic a axis of the lattice. The structure consists of two parallel running zigzag chains that are inverted from each other. They are generated by two Pd(CN)_(4)^(2-) ions bridging Tm(Ⅲ) ions in cis fashion. The chains are linked by a series of Pd(CN)_(4)^(2-) ions bridging the Tm atoms in a trans fashion. The crystal system is a triclinic. R1 and wR2 are 0.0300 and 0.0663, respectively.

<P>Heat treatment of Pt based nanoparticles under various conditions is one of the conventional ways to modify the electrocatalytic properties for enhancement of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). However, the effect of the heat treatment atmosphere on the ORR activity especially upon specific anion adsorption still remains unclear. This paper investigates the Pt–Ni bimetallic nanoparticles (Pt<SUB>2</SUB>Ni<SUB>1</SUB>), under various heat treatment atmospheres, as enhanced cathodic electrocatalysts for the high temperature-proton exchange membrane fuel cell (HT-PEMFC) using a phosphoric acid doped polybenzimidazole (p-PBI) membrane. The X-ray spectroscopic measurement showed the variations of the electronic structures of Pt–Ni nanoparticles under the heat treatment condition. In the half-cell measurement, the argon treated electrocatalyst demonstrated the highest catalytic activity owing to the appropriate electronic interaction between Pt and Ni. The single cell test with a p-PBI membrane, at 160 °C, also confirmed the excellent oxygen reduction reactivity and durability of the argon-treated Pt–Ni nanoparticles. This result suggested that the alteration of the electronic structure by a proper heat treatment atmosphere upon specific anion adsorption decisively influenced the ORR activity both at half-cell and single-cell scales.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>A proper heat treatment atmosphere decisively influenced the oxygen reduction reaction, particularly upon specific anion adsorption from the half-cell to single-cell scale. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=c4cp00187g'> </P>

<P>Host–guest interactions in porous supramolecular structures have been studied on surfaces using scanning tunneling microscopy, with anticipation of biochemical and sensor applications, but limited to cases of van der Waals interactions and hydrogen bonds. Here, we studied the intermolecular structures of 4,4″-dibromo-<I>p</I>-terphenyl molecules self-caged in porous supramolecular structures with halogen bonds on Ag(111). The caged molecules hopped among six different configurations at higher than 50 K, showing a propeller-like pattern. At 30 K, they stayed at one of six states that were stabilized with Br···Br halogen bonds and Br···H hydrogen bonds with energy gains of 225, 197, and 163 meV, as revealed by our density functional theory calculations. 새로운 유기수소붕소 메탈로센 콤플렉스 bis(cyclopentadienyl)(μ-hydrido)(μ-oxo)(9-borabicyclo[3,3,1]nonyl zirconium dimer [(η^(5)-C_(5)H_(5))_(2)Zr(μ-H)(μ-O)(BC_(8)H_(14))]_(2)이 [(η^(5)-C_(5)H_(5))_(2)ZrCl]_(2)O과 K[H_(2)BC_(8)H_(14)]의 반응에서 생성되었다. 이 화합물의 삼차원 분자 구조를 단 결정 x-선 크리스탈로그라피로 결정하였다. 두개의 Zr(η^(5)-C_(5)H_(5))_(2)가 유기수소붕소 (μ-H)(μ-O)(BC_(8)H_(14)이 다리가 되어 산소 그리고 수소 원자를 통하여 결합되었다. Zr-H 결합은 붕소 원자에 전자쌍을 공급하여 안정화 하였다. 수소 원자는 x-선 크리스탈로그라피에 의해 그 위치를 분석하였고 이 것은 수소 핵자기 공명 스펙트럼과 일치하였다. 수소 및 붕소 핵자기 공명 그리고 적외선 분광학으로 이 콤플렉스의 특성을 조사하였다. A novel organohydroborate metallocene complex bis(cyclopenradienyl)(μ-hydrido)(μ-oxo)(9-borabicyclo[3,3,1]nonyl zirconium dimer [(η^(5)-C_(5)H_(5))_(2)Zr(μ-H)(μ-O)(BC_(8)H_(14))]_(2) was prepared in the reaction of [(η^(5)-C_(5)H_(5))_(2)ZrCl]_(2)O with K[H_(2)BC_(8)H_(14)]. The molecular stucture of the complex was characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The complex has a crystallographically imposed center of symmetry. Two Zr(η^(5)-C_(5)H_(5))_(2) fragments are linked by two organohydroborate (μ-H)(μ-O)BC_(8)H_(14) bridging groups, through oxygen and hydrogen atoms. The bridge hydrogen was located and the position refined. Zr-H bond acts as an electron pair donor to trivalent boron. The bridge hydrogen was located and the position refined. This hydrogen was consistent with ^(1)H NMR spectrum. The complex was characterized by ^(1)H and ^(11)B NMR and IR spectroscopies.
