        Role of microRNAs in myogenesis and their effects on meat quality in pig — A review

        The demand for food is increasing day by day because of the increasing global population. Therefore, meat, the easiest and largely available source of protein, needs to be produced in large amounts with good quality. The pork industry is a significant shareholder in fulfilling the global meat demands. Notably, myogenesis- development of muscles during embryogenesis- is a complex mechanism which culminates in meat production. But the molecular mechanisms which govern the myogenesis are less known. The involvement of miRNAs in myogenesis and meat quality, which depends on factors such as myofiber composition and intramuscular fat contents which determine the meat color, flavor, juiciness, and water holding capacity, are being extrapolated to increase both the quantity and quality of pork. Various kinds of microRNAs (miRNAs), miR-1, miR-21, miR22, miR-27, miR-34, miR-127, miR-133, miR-143, miR-155, miR-199, miR-206, miR-208, miR-378, and miR-432 play important roles in pig skeletal muscle development. Further, the quality of meat also depends upon myofiber which is developed through the expression of different kinds of miRNAs at different stages. This review will focus on the mechanism of myogenesis, the role of miRNAs in myogenesis, and meat quality with a focus on the pig.

      • Bound states of little strings and symmetric orbifold conformal field theories

        <P>We study BPS bound states of little strings in a limit where they realize monopole strings in five dimensional gauge theories. The latter have gauge group U(M)(N) and arise from compactification of (1,0) little string theories of type A(M-1) x A(N-1). We find evidence that the partition function of a certain subclass of monopole strings of charge (k,..., k) (k >= 1) is expressible as the partition function of a symmetric orbifold sigma model, whose target space is precisely the symmetric product of the moduli space of monopoles with charge (1,..., 1).</P>

        Scalable synthesis of MOFs-derived ZnO/C nanohybrid: efficient electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution reaction in alkaline medium

        One of the main goals of energy conversion research is to develop effi cient, nonprecious, and stable electrocatalysts to replace defi cient and unstable noble metal catalysts. Hence, this work described metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) derived ZnO/C hybrid via a hydrothermal route grown on the surface of conducting stainless steel substrate (SS). By using multiple physical techniques (XRD, FTIR, TEM, XPS, and EDX), we compared structural and morphological properties of ZnO/C hybrid and MOF-5 electrodes. The electrocatalytic behaviour of amiable and economical ZnO/C/SS catalyst was noticed in catalyzing oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in one mole KOH electrolyzer with low overpotential and excellent stability. Cyclic sweep voltammetry indicated that the ZnO/C/SS hybrid only needs an ultralow overpotential of 282 mV to achieve a current density of 10 mA  cm −1 for OER. In addition, ZnO/C/SS with a low Tafel slope of 39.3 mV/dec and higher 0.29  s −1 turnover frequency can serve as a profi cient electrocatalyst compared to commercial ZnO and MOF-5 electrodes. The stability of ZnO/C/SS hybrid electrocatalyst approaching minor chronoamperometric degradation after 55 h. The electrochemical response depicts that the successful synthesis of MOF-derived ZnO/C/SS catalyst provided abundant active centers and boosted an electron- rich environment to promote its future prosperity and facilitate practical applications for electrochemical water-splitting.

        Efficient rGO-supported CeO2–Y2O3–Nd2O3 nanocomposite electrocatalyst for water splitting (HER/OER) in alkaline medium

        Increasing demand for hydrogen as fuel from the electrolysis of water, along with the immense use of alternative energy strategies, is vital to meet future energy demands. Herein, we report the very first time that a quaternary composite CeO 2– Y2O3–Nd2O3 modified with rGO support on nickel foam substrate demonstrated excellent catalyst behavior. Systematic structural and morphological studies are performed to understand the effects of the rare-earth-based elements on hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions in an alkaline (1.0 M KOH) electrolyzer. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis revealed the presence of multiple valence states, synergistic interaction, and electronic effects between the prepared nanocom- posite components, resulting in excellent catalytic activity. The quaternary composite has excellent OER/HER characteristics than individual oxides with low overpotential 272 mV (OER) and 303 mV (HER) to produce standard 10  mAcm−2 current density. Moreover, the quaternary composite catalyst with more active sites also displayed a larger surface area (9.03  cm 2) and double-layered capacitance (36.12 mF). The corresponding electrode is efficient and maintains its stability over 50 h toward OER/HER, which can greatly contribute to practical operation.
